Jose I. Rivas

Jose I. Rivas was born in Havana, Cuba and moved to Orlando, Florida in 1979. Jose graduated with honors from the prestigious Rollins College in 1993. At Rollins, Jose obtained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Sciences and History. Throughout the late 1990's Jose served as managing partner in several hospitality business ventures. He was responsible for launching numerous new successful business ventures.

As a result of his extensive corporate experience, Jose decided to pursue a legal education at FAMU College of Law in 2003. During his legal education, Jose was elected to fundraiser committee of HALSA (Hispanic American Latin Student Association) at FAMU College of Law. Jose was a top achiever in the contracts negotiation class. Prior to graduation, Jose served as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Legal Intern for the Public Defender's Office of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, where he obtained valuable legal experience in a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases. His dedication to his clients and vigorous negotiations played a major part in his courtroom experience.

After earning his law degree in 2006, Jose became a senior partner at The Rivas Law Firm, P.A., in Winter Park, Florida. As law partner, he has participated in misdemeanor, domestic violence, juvenile, and felony cases. Jose has also handled a variety of civil cases, including: evictions, collections, judgments, and contract negotiations. Jose has appeared in a wide range of cases in front of a jury and judges with great success. His experience as an entrepreneur and attorney offers clients a full perspective of the criminal justice system and their individual cases. His prior entrepreneurial and legal experience has been a valuable tool in his everyday negotiations and legal defense. His pursuit of justice and dedication to serving the needy has become a priority in his everyday practice.

Doricia Miller Rivas was born in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University in 1982 and continued her studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she was awarded a Master of Arts in English Literature in 1986. While a graduate student, Doricia was a student in the summer session at England's renowned Oxford University.

Doricia pursued the study of law at Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida. While at Stetson, she was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for academic excellence. Doricia graduated from Stetson cum laude [with honors] in 1993.

Admitted to the Florida Bar in 1993, Doricia has had diverse and extensive legal experience. After graduating from law school, she worked as a legal researcher in local government law at the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office. While an associate at a specialized real estate firm, Doricia litigated lien foreclosures, as well as writing corporate documents for real estate developers and homeowners associations. Doricia has had further experience as an insurance defense attorney in the field of workers' compensation. Additionally, she practiced law with a firm representing the Florida Department of Revenue in the enforcement of child support and paternity cases.

Upon joining the Public Defender's Office, Orlando, Doricia obtained valuable experience in criminal defense. She represented hundreds of clients from misdemeanor traffic cases to life felonies, and was lead attorney in numerous trials. Doricia was voted Best Advocate at the Public Defender College.

In 2008, Doricia was a founding partner of The Rivas Law Firm, P.A. in Winter Park, Florida. She is dedicated to bringing her experience and knowledge to the aid of her clients.
