A free art gallery?! Can you get any better?! Not to mention they also have an array of historical artifacts you could spend hours marveling at and reading about. When I visited, a nice lady I think her name is Danielle noticed my friend and I admiring a painting and she asked us if we’d like to know more, then blessed us with all sorts of cool facts! We continued to ask questions and learn lots about all sorts of cool things they had there. Seriously - this place is awesome and I will come back to check out the garden once spring is in full swing!
If you want to learn something new today this is the place. The art gallery is way bigger than it looks. It's not enough pictures you can take to show what's in there. Some very fascinating pieces and artifacts. The lady's in there was very kind and had interesting facts about paintings. Everything in there has history, a story, and a fact about it.
The R.W. Norton is a hidden gem that should be listed as one of Shreveport’s crown jewels! This gallery is more than just amazing art, it also has artifacts as well, making it a gallery and museum. We got there an hour before opening and it wasn’t too busy. The staff were friendly and waiting to open the door for you. They were gleefully answering questions and giving tours which you have to set up in advance. It’s laid out very well and is also child friendly with numerous areas for little ones. It’s free to get in, but I would highly suggest giving a donation, because they should really be charging for entry. If you’re looking to get cultured, spend some family time, or escape poor weather, this is the place to be! We will be visiting again!
Both the gardens and the art exhibit were very nice! The art was very extensive and varied. I especially enjoyed their collection of landscape paintings in the European section. There were even some interactive activities, and the staff were very friendly. What's more it's all free. Definitely one of the best places to visit in Shreveport.
Amazing collection of European and American art. Rivals galleries I've visited in large cities around the country. A must see. I will return soon as one visit doesn't allow enough time to fully appreciate the collection.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
In May, the gardens are so green and beautiful, some plants do have flowers, you can enjoy a clean, green and peaceful environment. Bring water because the garden is big and you might get thirsty.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entryFree
Great experience! My daughter thought it was absolutely amazing. If you’re looking for something free to do in a healthy outdoor environment, this is it. Fresh air and a fun little adventure.
Not only was my family and I literally stalled by the employees our entire visit, they said you cannot lean against the wall, stand too close to the exhibit, I couldn't even put my hand on the wall to tie my shoe. Only reason I gave it 1 star is because I didn't have the option to leave 0 stars. No water bottles or purses either? No wonder it's free because it's DEFINITELY not even worth a penny to visit.
Awesome Art Museum. I happened up this place by chance while exploring Shreveport over 25 years ago. I had no idea what the building was as I saw it while driving. I'm super glad I stopped. Now I make a point to visit whenever I'm in Shreveport. It's been free to visit every time I've come. There is always something new and beautiful to see, especially while walling around their landscaped grounds. I highly recommend stopping to look around.
Who knew a great art museum was in Shreveport? I didn't! Wonderful collection with many nice pieces. The staff couldn't have been kinder or more friendly and justifiably proud.
