Interesting place. Don't let the outside fool you. It feels like an expensive, upscale restraunt, pub, brewery but the prices are great. Really enjoyed the "Adult Grill Cheese" and the craft beers. Very good beers and a decent menu. Food was very good. Lovely outdoor seating area surrounded by large trees.
Tried a beer flight. Beautiful presentation and delicious beer. $12 for 6 4oz pours but I enjoyed all 6.
Unique menu items that are delicious and amazing beers. I had the taco mac and cheese with chicken and their seasonal jack o lantern beer.
Great local find. It is quite like a pub in the UK. Very attentive server and good happy hour.
Best restaurant in Schenectady! Granted, I haven't tried any of the places that are $30-$40 per plate, but I stand by my statement. Beautiful space, good food, reasonable prices, excellent beer, friendly bartenders. The history this place has adds to the atmosphere, and the live jazz on Tuesdays is extra nice. Don't miss this place!
My husband and I were very impressed with the food at Mad Jack Brewery at the Van Dyke. Everything was delicious, the wings were cooked crispy to perfection, the beer battered fish was crunchy and everything stayed intact. But the piece de resistance was the dessert. The s'mores skillet was to die for!!!!! I would go back just for that alone. Our server was friendly and attentive and made our first visit there a great one.
It was a little loud. The food was good, the server was nice. We were a party of 3 with a reservation. My family member who has some ambulatory weaknesses was in attendance, so 2 of the 3 of us were running a little late. I had never been to this place since the addition of the micro brewery. Once I got there, I wasn't sure if the other two in my party would be comfortable in an environment with that noise level. I asked when I arrived if there was a quieter space and was quickly told it wasn't that loud. I might recommend to folks looking for that atmosphere but I might not return myself.
A nice place for some craft brew. They serve their own Mad Jack line. Also serve basic not craft beer as well. They are a restaurant bar with a full menu. Much more than bar food. Wednesday is half off apps. Update: I came last Friday for a drink and appetizer before going to a show. It was busy and they had an area set up for live music which at first I was disappointing to see because I didn't want to yell to the person next to me while we were there. But to my surprise the band played at a reasonable volume which was awesome. I like live music I just don't like when a place made for socializing blasts music so loud you have to yell at the people you are sitting with. Van Dyck knows their customers well and created an excellent Friday date night environment! With of course, good food and beers as always.
This place had reasonable food and good service...and pretty good atmosphere, very cozy decor and nice old historic building -- lots of character. I see why people would like it here - I think it would be fun on a weekend night maybe with a band playing. It was very quiet on the weeknight when we stopped in for a bite while there from out of town. Honestly my food was just ok, but I would give it another chance if I lived there or if i am in town again -- just to see what the norm is for their food. The place has great potential and is worth a try.
I will say it's been awhile since I've been there since I only stopped by in traveling but the place was great. Had some great wings and the beers were really good. One of the cheapest flights and the pours were good sized too. Had a question about a beer and brewer actually came out to talk to us. Awesome, awesome low key place. If you're ever remotely in the area, definitely make it a stop.
