I'm so happy Uncle Wolfie's opened a sister location downtown. The best part is they take reservations! The brunch menu is pretty small, which is what we had, but I would definitely be interested in trying out their dinner menu as well. The chicken sandwich had a unique flavor but was good. I highly recommend the chili crisp omelette. I'm not even a huge fan of eggs, but the combination of chili oil and cheese and vegetables was delicious! They also serve a couple flavors of Soul Brew kombucha which is Milwaukee based and yummy! The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere unique and pleasant. A great place to walk to downtown, and its also conveniently located near the the Hop streetcar stop. I highly recommend!
I was very excited to try this location but was left underwhelmed. Parking is tough and nobody seemed to be working valet on a Saturday evening. Luckily we Ubered so it was not a problem, but I do like to scope things out. The host was so sweet and engaging. We were sat for our reservation at a cute little two top by the bar. The atmosphere is incredible! It's cozy but spaced out enough that you don't feel like you're having a meal with the table next to you. Service is very laid back despite there not being that many tables. We were given menus and told to think things over and then were left without service for quite a while. The drink menu was not very enticing. Everything looked like it would be very sweet and hurt our teeth. We ordered drinks and were again left alone for an extended period of time. When the server returned with our drinks, she suggested giving us time with the menu. We quickly ordered the chips. The Arnold Palmers were perfectly balanced and I'm kind of picky about those. I'd come back for the tea alone! Another staff brought out the chips and we had them finished before our server came back to get our dinner order. The cheese tasted processed and there were barely any shallots which was the selling point because I love pickled onions. I was disappointed by the menu because they made several changes that weren't reflected on the website which is where I got excited about the food. Our food became out pretty quickly. The steak tartare was excellent, the dressing on the salad was amazing, and the patty melt was also delicious. One thing I noticed when reheating the sandwich is that there were no mushrooms. I could have sworn those were in the description. It's unfortunate when you pay for an entree and one of the ingredients are missing. We sat with mostly empty plates for quite a while before having them cleared. I will note that our server walked past plenty of times to help other tables so she was certainly working. It seemed more like maybe the multitasking was not there. We were tucked in the back so she might have kept missing us. She was very sweet and knowledgeable about the menu, so we enjoyed that! She brought us the dessert menu and we again had to grab her before she left the table. The ube cheesecake was an easy sell and oh gosh, definitely worth it. I would come back again but I would like to give the location time to figure out a better flow.
We decided to give the brunch a try and we went disappointed! The food was delicious, the service was fast and friendly without any feeling of being rushed, and it was a bright and open space. The menu is not huge but it is varied with some new takes on old favorites; we had the omelette and the corn fritters.... we're looking forward to returning to try the other offerings!
Pretty solid 4/5 all around. The theme here seems to be minimalism and deconstruction. Food: Ceviche and curry greens for starters. The homemade butter crackers with the deep flavor profile on the ceviche were a damn good combo. Curry greens had great flavor, but the kale could’ve been tenderized or made into smaller pieces no one wants to be messy when eating in elevated dining. Drinks were the business gin and sangre del lobo mezcal. I was the clear winner getting the mezcal. Balanced flavor between the liquor, butters, and chile oil. Great combos. The business cocktail was too sugary. Plus, mezcal is just better obvio ‍ Make your cocktails cute tho. Both cocktails looked like a drink left out at a hot party for too long…no great garnish although I’m sure it cuts costs and the ingredients look settled. Not appealing. Main courses were the Flank Steak and Chili Crisp Fish Sandwich. Flank steak was a miss. Partner loved the sweet corn puree. I loved the cabbage - so flavorful. But how is the steak going to be lukewarm to cold? That was a let down. My fish sandwich was a hit. Great sauce. Great toppings. Solid breading on the white fish. We joked about deconstructionism here though because even my sandwich absolutely fell apart. It was way too messy for a spot like this. Bottom bun is weak. Ube cheesecake was bomb! Deep Flavor blast. Would’ve loved another couple bananas on top or on the crumbs. Overall, food and drinks were good but the final approach seemed lazy and lacking. I would take colleagues or a more serious reunion or more to morel on 2nd street or even La Merenda or the spot in The Trade. Service: Server was super sweet. Could tell she was a bit green. Good job pushing through though. Support staff was great. Atmosphere: Suuuper cool and minimal spot. They put a lot of thought into the design. The booths and bar caught my eye a lot. Could definitely see them adding more lighting on the south wall.
It’s a smaller place that has a nice ambiance, so I was a bit nervous when we got seated and didn’t have a server come to our table for just over 15 minutes...they did apologize and said we were ”out of their line of vision” and were very attentive the rest of our time there. We got the buttered chicken wings, rendang puffs, irma’s chicken sandwich, and the garlic indo-mie. The buttered chicken wings were grilled really well but were definitely not resembling butter chicken which I could have expected. The rendang puffs were phenomenal and full of lots of flavor. The chicken sandwich was fried and very tasty, along w the fries that came w it. The indo-mie was also good and a great vegan option. The ube cheesecake was the star of the show for me!
I've been excited to try this place since I love Uncle Wolfie's so much, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere and service were great, as were the food and drinks. I had the North Broadway cocktail, along with the Bitter Mai Tai. Both very tasty, but slight edge to the North Broadway. As for the food, I went with the brunch burger and it was solid. Loved the sauce it had. Looking forward to trying the chicken sandwich next time. The real show stopper for my wife and I though was the ube cheesecake. That was absolutely incredible.
This is based on my experience on Dec 29th. Birthday, 6pax, dinner service. We were allll so excited to try this restaurant downtown and it started out a little awkward. Waitress came by to surprise us with free champagne but got mistaken halfway through and rescinded the bottle. No worries though it’s an honest mistake. She was really friendly and was apologetic. The Rendang puff and chip & dip off the appetizer menu is amazing and was gone in seconds! The entrée portion was where it was a hit or miss. Flank steak? Amazing. Burger? Great. Duck farro? WAY too salty and we couldn’t even finish it. Voiced our concern and we got a “oh it’s actually a common feedback and this is how the chef intended and I can’t take it back” and did not offer any solution. Fine, I said to have more shrimp chip to balance out the flavor because it was truly like licking the salt block with every bite. The bill came and we got charged for those extra shrimp chips without being told beforehand that it would be free! Dessert: ube cheesecake with the caramalized banana is good! Overall the menu was really exciting but the way they handled the salty dish really dampened the whole mood. Would come back for brunch to try other items but sadly dinner was a little underwhelming compared to the hype this restaurant gets.
The Wolf on Broadway is a food experience I have looked forward to for a while since we are regulars at Uncle Wolfie's Breakfast Tavern and is one of our favorite go-to morning spots in Milwaukee This sister restaurant is more lunch and dinner focused with shareable sandwiches called handhelds and several main entrées options for the evening patrons. We were particularly drawn to the butter chicken wings, rendang puffs made with rendang beef cheeks, gado gado cobb salad, and the fish handheld. It did not disappoint. The chicken wings were grilled and slathered in a butter sauce and yogurt, which was remininscint of a very mild curry-like flavor. The rendang puffs were actually quite large, but the star here was the beef filling that you could tell was slow cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the fish handheld, but was curious as to the choice of sesame seed bun, which, for as high quality a fish sandwich it was, seemed to devalue the $20 sticker price. I enjoyed the fries with the sandwich, but the truffle dipping sauce really made it lip smacking. My wife loved the gado gado cobb salad with shrimp on it, and there was nary a morsel left on the plate when we were finished.
The entire experience was such a treat!! Everything we ordered was amazing, especially the chili crisp fish sandwich and ube cheesecake. Staff were amazing and super attentive. Highly recommend!! Can’t wait to go back asap for dinner next time we were in for lunch. Also the entire aesthetic was so comforting and relaxing while unique and elevated. Returned for dinner and had another excellent experience! Amazing service and attentive staff, tasty dishes I had the Irma’s Chicken Sandwich - very comforting on a rainy night, and got the ube cheesecake again of course. Loved my wine choices as well bubbly rosé and a Pinot Gris. I loved that we were able to relax, pace out our ordering, and did not feel rushed at all. Will definitely be back - maybe for brunch next time! Dietary restrictions: The menu was well marked for dietary restrictions.
I'll just say it... It was underwhelming. Service and atmosphere was good but I came for the food. Lets start off... We had a lot of food... The appetizers were really good like as fresh ceviche as I have had with the shrimp ceviche flavor and steak tartare was very great too. The main dishes were packed with flavor... personally I think too much flavor. If it was amazing, I would have finished all the plates but entree after entree I ran into the same problem: there was too much salt, butter, flavor that is overpowering and became a problem trying to finish such a great first bite with each entree with including: mushroom indomie noodle- too rich flavor to finish crab nasi goreng- such a weird first bite with the crab mix, I could not try a 2nd broadway burger- nothing special and fries WAYYY TOO SALTY Irma's Chicken sandwich- after a while, just wasn't that tasty to finish looking more like a chicken patty. The dessert was way too many different flavors all packed into one and wasnt a delight to eat either. avoid the cake one. There was some great appetizers but not so good entrees and if I am spending this much money, I want to know that everything on the menu is stellar and it just didn't turn out that way especially the main courses. However, I am still a fan of uncle wolfies wolfundito. Wish I woulda liked this place more.
