We had 12+ boxes lost, serious irreparable damage, and they took no responsibility.  Arpin Van Lines, West Warwick, RI, was contracted by the Army to move us as our final move after a 26+ year military career.  Arpin subcontracted Thomas Transfer & Storage of Emporia, KS.  The movers hired were DAY LABORERS with little to no prior experience, at their own admission.  These men had access to 100% of our belongings without a background check.  They damaged furniture, shoving dressers through door frames, rather than remove the doors, ripped off a dresser leg, and dropped a Sleeper Sofa out of the back of the moving truck, causing irreparable damages.  Our goods were stored in their warehouse before delivery.  Once delivered there were over a dozen missing boxes.  Now, during the claims process, they're denying a fair settlement and low-balling the offers.  My husband is a 100% VA disabled Veteran.  They "lost" the expensive Cal King Sleep Number Mattress he needs for his bad back.  I know, there's always another side to every story.  Their side is they don't want to take responsibility because the damages total over $60K.  We wish there was a NO STAR option for our review.

This company should be blacklisted from retaining their military contract. In my 18 years in the military, these were by far the worst movers I have ever seen. I have several collectibles that were on my HVI sheet, which were in perfect shape when they were packed. Apparently, the packers did not do their job and the collectible came back broken in several different pieces. These collectibles we part of a series where only 50 were made. Hence, they cannot be repurchased nor repaired. To make matters worse, their claims department (Barbara Proffitt) is extremely rude and consistently kept asking for more and more proof that we owned and purchased the items in order to avoid payment - what is worse is that the inspector came to the house and specified that she would do what she could to ensure the company avoided full payment. I am not the only one who has had this experience with this company. Almost everyone who has used them for temporary storage that I've talked to has had the same issue. Again, this company should not be allowed to do business with Military personnel because they do not care about their customers. Horrible experience and very horrible customer service.

I have had to move several times throughout my military career and Thomas Transfer was by far my worst experience. The packers were terrible. I had to request them pack things in boxes. so they wouldn't get broken. The driver and movers making the delivery were unprofessional and verbally insulting. The company takes no pride in their service. You expect a moving company to move your belongings without breaking and losing them. That is what their business is. Terrible company from employees to customer service was a nightmare. 1 star is the lowest rating I could give it and they are not even worth a rating that high. Worst mistake you will ever make if you hire them.

The folks at Thomas Transfer really bend over backwards to see that the process is clearly understood, people are on time for packing, loading and unloading.  The office staff likewise are available at every step of the move, encouraging and following up promptly.  We found them to go above and beyond at every opportunity.
