Some great things. Unfortunately way too overpriced. Only go in there when there are good specials. And it needs to ditch Airmiles and have its own rewards program.

Handicap parking and entrances, nice wide aisles make shopping less stressful for persons using walkers or wheelchairs. Beautiful displays in every department.

This isn't really Thrifty Foods. The real Thrifty Food's was a Vancouver Island an icon in the communities on Vancouver Island and Alex Campbell vision of doing things different than Safeway or The Overwaitea Food Group. When the 2 giants were slugging things out with unionized workers, trying to put the severance and benefit packages into the grocery mortuary. Along came the Campbell family. Thrifty Foods offered a superb grocery experience for the customer, a selection that was very unlike Malkins or Kelly Douglas had to offer an their respective stores. And at first the management and staff experienced growing pains, they somehow managed to rise above the Ho-hum attitude Safeway & Save-On had adopted because of management vs employee dicontent and evident with loyal longtime customers. Well Big Business sooner or later will take over, and in this case did. Thrifty Foods had experienced unparalleled growth through Vancouver Island and Vancouver's Lower Mainland. Alex Campbell unfortunately passed away and the family had to make a decision, and to the disappointment of millions of British Columbians Thrify Foods sold the successful grocery chain to Sobey's. Sobey's did a realative good job masking the purchase and maintaining the status quo of the former Campbell dynasty. Smoke & Mirrors may be a better word. But now the smoke has lifted only to find the mirror has cracked and there is no soul of anything Thrifty's now that the Maritime based Sobey's has control. The quality of staffing I'm sorry is just not there because Sobey's has chosen to take those incentives and bonuses away, part-time employees working 2 maybe 3 differet jobs doesn't help with the grocery experience. Over blown prices that chase the smiles out of the aisles and right out the same way you came in. Money is too hard to come by, and I have a hard time throwing my dollars down the drain. The casher asked me if I wanted bags for my groceries. Duhh?? How am I going to take my groceries out to my car? " Well the cashier says, that will be 5 cents a bag." I said didn't I pay enough for these groceries already? She just smiled and ready to proceed with the woman behind. I said "I'll need one more bag please." She said another bag? I retorted" Yeah, one to put on my head for when I go back outside." I wouldn't want anyone to see I stupid enough to shop at this Rip Off Store. Thrifty's may you rest in peace. Sobey's quite the masquerade.
