About

Torchy's Tacos San Marcos: DAMN GOOD FOOD.

Story

Torchy's Tacos started in 2006 with a mobile trailer, a little red Vespa, and a man with a passion for good food. The founder, Mike Rypka, left an executive chef position to chase his dreams by investing everything he had into Torchy's Tacos. With a new, experimental menu ready to serve but no mouths to feed, Rypka jumped on his Vespa and started throwing out samples in an attempt to draw customers to his trailer. Before he knew it, people were rallying beside the taco stand hollering, "damn these tacos are good!" and the Torchy's Tacos' legacy began.

This was my first time ever trying Torchy's and I must say the taco I had (chicken fajita) was delicious! The cashier was very nice and friendly. Really good first experience. Will be returning.

Friendly staff, great taco. I got the chorizo egg and bacon with a lone star to drink. Perfect. Not too greasy, hot and perfect salsa. Beer was cold. What more can you ask for

Torchy's is one of my favorite eateries--I've been to at least 7 different locations. If you're visiting for the first time, know that these are not anything like traditional Mexican or Tex-Mex style tacos, aside from the fact there is a soft or crispy shell with some type of filling. Torchy's tacos are much more adventurous and range from fried tuna to marinated pork to plantains. They are a truly unique experience, particularly the taco of the month selections. Tip: look online for the "secret menu" --some really amazing treats there. The SM location is our regular haunt, being closest to home. This is a nice location with a large outdoor dining area, a bar, and a helpful staff. Be prepared for a parking adventure, particularly at peak times. They did not pick a great location for vehicles. There is paid parking across the street, but the lot was apparently paved in gold bricks, based upon the outrageous rates--just keep circling the block until something comes up. Gas is cheaper.

Good food, helpful staff, good crowd. Tasty combinations and substantial serving size, just the right amount of spice. Close to campus.

Good college town taco place. If you like tacos and queso, come to here. Be careful though because you can definitely drop a dime here without paying attention
