You just can't go wrong with Torrance Bakery. Always fresh, good, and tasty. Hands-down they offer some of the best baked goods in LA COUNTY top 3 for sure. They have been doing this since 1984, the Olympics were in L.A. then, it was a good year and this bakery has been rock'n it every since then. The triple chocolate fudge cake I got one to celebrate my wife's birthday. Lastly, some of the best sandwiches & cookies in town too. This place never disappoints.
I usually come for the donuts but this time I got a chocolate mousse pie or something similar and couple of donuts and a chocolate chip cookie! All so good.. I have a sweet tooth so I’m always looking for something new to try! They also have coffee hot & iced and big cakes too!! Definitely check this spot out if you’re in the area. Parking is fine during the weekdays but over the weekends it does get crowded!
The quintessential neighborhood spot for sweet treats, birthday cakes, and wedding cakes. Their donuts are on par or better with any other donut shop in the neighborhood, and the shortbread cookies are sure to make any small child or adult smile. There’s an incredible assortment of freshly baked cookies daily, including, but not limited to, chocolate chip, peanut butter, divine, and chewy fudge. All cakes are decorated with an expert hand, and the staff and management aim to please. It’s not uncommon to see a line out the door, but there may be seven or eight people inside working to help everyone so the line goes fast. You can also pick up a freshly brewed cuppa coffee or iced mocha inside as well. A few doors down is also the Torrance Café, part of the bakery, and they make an array of delicious sandwiches for about $10. They offer several different varieties of bread for the sandwiches, and there are also freshly made salads although they will run out sometimes. The café is open every day, except for Sunday, with the exception being every fourth Sunday of the month when the Torrance antique Street Faire is held. Parking: There are some street parking spots in front, and also a parking lot at the rear of the store, which are usually available.
We usually go to the Gardena location. Fortunately they ran out of 'Kings Cake' Nawlins style Mardi Gras *Fat Tuesday Celebration* and the staff had suggested to come here and check out their 75% larger selections of pastries as well as to see if they had any 'Kings Cake's available. Luckily we were able to secure 1 of 3 that was left. The place was just that, about 75% larger than the Gardena location. I couldn't believe the selections they had. Donuts, croissants, macaroons, cookies, muffins, cupcakes, coffee, and more! It's a Saturday and quite busy our server was quite eager to serve us however had trouble with understanding what we came for. We had to say it 3 times until her co worker came up and informed us that she was a new hire. With all due respect I believe the training should've included clairvoyance in communication and knowledge of key items or special sale items to be sold in order to avoid confusion. It wasn't her fault for not knowing. I've worked retail my entire working history and understand. I felt better after the African American gentleman behind the counter cleared that up for us. He informed us that he had baked the cakes himself and was pleased to hear that. I do empathize for the young gal who served us. The rest of the staff were on top of the big Saturday afternoon rush. All in all they made a great first impression and we will be coming back for more pastries and baked goodiness is that even a word? Lol!
I live in the neighborhood and I have supported and patronized Torrance Bakery regularly over the past several years. I bring people there from out of town. I tell my colleagues at work, my friends, how great the bakery is and bring them treats. I have ordered specialty cakes, cupcakes, and cookies from the bakery, and I’ve always been satisfied with the quality. However, as a shining star of the businesses in Torrance, I just expect so much more when it comes to their customer service. I don’t know what it is, but people working there must be very unhappy with management or ownership, because they just seem to be miserable. Although it’s not 100%, it just seems that many of the workers there are not very happy. You don’t get a smile or friendly welcome when you come in… it’s like they just want to get your order and get you out of there as fast as possible. I have noticed that when it is busy in there, things seem quite disorganized, and I really think management could work on a workflow that would be better for the workers and for customers. I have never understood why the coffee station isn’t staffed with consistent people who are just focused on coffee orders… maybe you could even pay at the coffee station. But the main issue is just a lack of being friendly and offering outgoing customer service. Final straw for me was Christmas Eve. I saw that the doors were open and that people were in the bakery. I walked in, walked up to the counter, and had three scowling faces looking at me, and one girl announces with a hateful tone, “we’re closed!” Well, obviously, they weren’t closed, because there were people in the store ordering and I was allowed to walk in! …with no one at the door telling people they were closed. No problem with closing early on Christmas but close and lock your doors, and have somebody at the door telling people that you are closed, instead of having such an unfriendly experience on Christmas Eve!! when you walk into the shop. I took my money to Marsatta chocolate, where they are always friendly and eager to please. I hope the bakery can address the customer service issue. It’s obvious from other reviews it’s not just me. With such a delightful product, management should be able to hire and train people who are happy to work there. ETA: upgrading my review because of the personal response from management and when I recently went in to purchase something the customer service was much improved. Friendly, helpful workers. Keep it up Torrance Bakery!
Wow an amazing bakery i never knew existed. I have been to the tea house near by but never realized this place existed. Its always packed with customers and the pastries are really good and the birthday cakes look great.Food: 5/5
Trying to get here and the streets were closed. So stopped three blocks away to park. As we walked, we found out that some type of antique street market was going on. At the bakery there was a lady at the door only allowing a specific number of people in and kept the line outside. She said it was due to fire safety. Once inside you see all the goodies. Someone is assigned to you to take care of your order up till hand off to a cashier. We selected a few pastries. A big chocolate dipped coconut kiss, almond croissant, a cherry danish, a buttermilk loaf. Found some outside sitting. It was relaxing.
Torrance Bakery, located in Old Torrance, is a South Bay staple. They always have delicious cakes and cookies. I love the themed cookies they have to go with the time of year. In March they have rainbow cookies and the pot at the end of the rainbow. We’ve bought many birthday cakes and cookies here. Sometimes there is a line, but it goes very quickly. They have many employees working there to help you. There is free street parking out front. The street looks like a throwback to the 1950s. This is our go to spot for delicious cakes and cookies.
My wife found this gem not too long ago. And I am so angry that WE HAVE NOT TRIED THIS PLACE BEFORE!!!!!!! Not only their cupcakes are so adorable and delicious but also their sandwiches are AMAZING!!! I definitely recommend the sandwich called “Stephanie” one of photos I uploaded. Perfect combination of everything inside and perfectly grilled bread! Apparently the place is about to be 40 years old in 2024. So obviously the place is pretty crowded and hard to get a table. But be patient and you can find one! This one family who took the table that we left circled the block 10 times! Oh btw, outside seating is so pretty and comfy. It’s also very quiet even when the place is super busy! Workers there are incredibly friendly. Almost family-like! This one guy who was going back and forth of kitchen and curbside delivery was not hesitant to play with my 3 year old son to make his day : Truly wonderful place, amazing food, and grateful people!!!
Torrance Bakery will be doing our wedding cake in November so I’ll update this review at that time, but the cake tasting appointment with Maddy was awesome. It was efficient, informative, and seamless. The cakes are all delicious! And you can also try special flavors if you let them know in advance. There was a line out the door of the bakery which is well deserved! We got cookies from the bakery and they were to die for. My favorite are the flourless cookies! Special thanks to Kirk for making us feel so so welcome!
