A Church That Cares
Since her beginning in August 1976 Trinity Baptist Church has been known as A Church That Cares. That the church cares is evidenced by Trinity's many and varied programs of worship, training, outreach, education and missions to the membership and local and extended communities.
In August 1976 approximately 35 individuals, informally but prayerfully, met to pray and consider the direction God was taking them. From that meeting the idea took root that God was working through those present to create a new work, and on October 31, 1976, 116 individuals signed the charter book as members of Trinity Baptist Church. The church had petitioned and had received acceptance as the 27th member church of Coryell Baptist Association.
The remainder of the year was spent in selecting pastor search and building site committees, organizing the various programs of the church, writing the church's constitution, buying property for a church building and selecting the church's motto and logo. And as always, much time was spent in prayer seeking the will of God in all things.
On April 3, 1977, James Aldridge was called as pastor. James and his family were present at the groundbreaking ceremony on Easter Sunday, 1977. Brother Aldridge provided the church's pastoral leadership until called to another church in 1981.
On April 28, 1977the first dirt was moved at the building site and the new construction was underway at last. The building was dedicated and occupied for training, education and worship on August 28, 1977.
In 1980, members of Trinity Church began an active association with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and began sharing Christ in the local prison system. This ministry has continued until now and many have been told of Christ's love and have come to know him in the "forgiveness of sins", a phrase often used by Pastor Aldridge.
David Crosby was called as pastor in May 1981. David and his family served the church until 1987. Under his leadership the church began an era of unprecedented growth. As growth continued, educational and activity space was leased across the street from the church to be used by Trinity's youth program. Additional space was gained through the purchase of a funeral home next to the main building, and on April 8, 1986, the 13,500 square foot educational building located at the rear of the main structure was dedicated and occupied for training and education. In 1986, a television ministry was begun.
James Young was called to pastor Trinity in 1987 - 1988. During his ministry the church continued its outreach and educational programs. The prison ministry flourished during this time as well and many participated in Lay Renewal and Experiencing God weekends. When pastor Young left the church he became a chaplain for Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
James Pool was called to Trinity as pastor in 1990. Brother Pool and family served the Lord at Trinity Church until 1997. Under his leadership the church continued its outreach, educational, training and mission programs. Brother Pool often taught lessons of redemption, reconciliation, forgiveness and holiness during his ministry at Trinity. In 1993 the Homebound Ministry was begun and continues to flourish. Also in 1993, the Hispanic Mission began to use the Lord's facilities at Trinity. This relationship continued until 2001. Inaddition, from the fall of 1994 to the spring of 2005 Trinity was pleased to house The Gatesville Christian Academy.
Brother Tim Crosby and family have been affiliated with Trinity since the early years. Tim has been a member of Trinity and has served the church as both interim pastor and pastor. He was called to pastor the church in 1997 and continues to lead Trinity’s programs and activities with a sincere dedication to the Lord’s work. Brother Tim pioneered the Faith program of church development locally, beginning the program in 1998. He has a strong focus on the Sunday School as a means not only to educate Christians and help them grow in the Lord, but also the proper path to building the church’s membership and preparing church leaders for the future. Tim Crosby is well known and respected throughout Gatesville and is active in community and civic affairs. Many needed repairs, renovations and innovations have been made to the church facility under Brother Tim’s leadership.
Mission Statement: "The family of Trinity Baptist Church exists to love God and people, teach God's Word, and to help all mankind to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in absolute obedience."
