True to its name, this barbecue joint does not disappoint. Outstanding Texas style BBQ. I opted for the three meat plate and each meat turkey, ribs, and brisket were smoked to precise perfection. I almost hate to admit it though, the Texas beans with green Chili's in them was undoubtedly the absolute best flavor on the plate. If I were to go back, I might order a large bowl of this and skip the meat all together. You've got to try it. Often times I don't like to slather meet with sauce because I want to taste the meat. However they had two options of dipping sauce. They had a Texas style barbecue and a Kansas style barbecue. True to texas, the Texas style was in my opinion bigger bolder and better. The Kansas seemed a little bit more vinegary to my taste. Even though this restaurant is located in a grocery store, the quality is the same as you would get from a sit-down standalone restaurant. The staff were friendly knowledgeable and very cheery. Clearly they like their job. I would definitely recommend this place.
Good, but not great. I had been wanting to try out True Texas BBQ for a while now. 3 meat plate: brisket, ribs, and sausage with brisket bean, mac & cheese, and jalapeño cornbread. Lean brisket has a good pepper bark, minimal fat, and paired well with spicy BBQ sauce. St Louis ribs were alright, but forgettable. The sausage was super dry just like the bland mac & cheese. Brisket beans were delicious and tasted great with jalapeño cornbread. I’d stick with brisket next time, or maybe try their loaded mac & cheese or spud with brisket.
Every time I go there you are always out of brisket or other products. You’re the only barbecue place that I know of that is always out of brisket. Good meat if you could go there to enjoy it. This has been several times and consistent. Always look forward but always disappointed. Just make enough already!
As we all know, going grocery shopping hungry is a no no . So we stopped in to have a quick bite at True Texas BBQ. Atmosphere was was clean, quiet and staff was friendly. Bbq sandwich was great. Very convenient for shoppers, located in HEB.
Used to love this bbq and brag about it. Today went and got a chopped beef sandwich, Sooo much spice, like it was only the outside part of a brisket, could not eat it. Where is the beef??? I let the girl at the counter know that it was not edible, she only laughed. I told her she should warn people about how it is only the dark spiced part. Will burn your stomach. Shame that this place has gone bad.
5:21 pm. Called again about sliced brisket. Very little left and said it was all “fatty”. Great brisket. Terrible about having it available.
Over the past few years, H‑E‑B BBQ has been a go to spot for me and multiple guys at work. We loved the staff and we all loved the FRETO PIE!!! I stop in today to get one, craving it all morning, and they tell me they discontinued it. Probably one of the worst things I have had to go through in my life. Unfortunately, you have lost a long loved customer… just when I thought this country couldn’t get any worse
One of the best brisket sandwiches you'll find anywhere in the region! Trust me I know BBQ! They also have pulled pork, sausage, turkey breast and more!!! Plenty of room to dine in.
I am convinced no one works at True Texas BBQ in Odessa, it must run in auto. Have called 6 times and no one can not answer the phone and don't know how or just plain don't care.
#1: Good. Ribs at evening often not available. #2: After half year I tried set 3 tape of meat. All good
