We have had nothing but wonderful experiences at Tucson Smiles so far but our last visit was particularly great. The staff did so much to make things work for us in a challenging situation and it all seemed effortless on their part. They were able to fit us in early in the week (after a tough weekend of 3 year old tooth pain) discover the culprit and treat our daughter (who was very anxious) without very much drama or discomfort. The were even able to help entertain the younger brother that had to tag along so I could stay with my daughter and hold her on my lap. All in all what could have been a tough visit went seamlessly smooth because of the efforts and talent of the whole staff. Dr. Hishaw and EVERYONE in the office is so wonderful, we can't thank you all enough!

Is this a rant? Yup. I have had nothing but issues with this office and I REALLY wanted to like it. They came highly recommended to me and I was excited about finding a great dentist for my kids. Took MANY attempts to get someone to answer the phone to schedule the first appointment, none of my messages were ever returned. About two weeks later, I took my kids out of school for their first appointment. When we (myself and two children) showed up, they did not have us in the book. They kept asking "Are you sure you called THIS office?" Finally, I was able to show in my cellphone log, that yes, I had called this office... So I sat with my kids, filling out paperwork, on standby in case they could get us in. They couldn't, so I rescheduled. The actual appointment was fine, the Dr was great, kids did well I thought things would be OK. They did diagnose our daughter with an abscess on a tooth that is loose and said that they would have to extract it unless it came out on it's own and advised me to schedule appointments for work on her teeth and my son's teeth. The earliest appointments being several weeks out. Last week we noticed that our daughter's face was swelling, no doubt from the abscess, and I again had to call the office several times before I was able to get a hold of someone. I explained what was going on, asked if antibiotics could be called in, they asked what pharmacy we used and said they'd call back soon. Several hours passed and I called back, and was told they'd call me back in 1/2 hour. A couple of more hours passed and they called, saying that I'd have to take my daughter to her Dr for antibiotics. Which is something that I had asked right away the first time I called. Thankfully our Dr understands emergencies and saw my daughter right away and we left the office with a prescription and advise to have her seen at the dentist and get the tooth removed. So back to calling the office every other hour until someone answers. I got through eventually (they never return my phone calls) explained the situation, made an emergency appointment, thought, Thank Jesus, this will work finally - until the office called back - and they said they weren't going to be able to treat my daughter because "she needs to go to the ER". "What?!" I asked. I explained that she HAD been to her Dr and was prescribed antibiotics. She said and I quote "The swellness needs to be treated". I just about lost my head. She kept repeating this as if saying it more than once would make it a real word. I explained AGAIN that she was on meds and the hospital sure as Hell didn't have a "magic shot" that would clear away infection. That being said, the Dr advised that she didn't feel she would be able to numb the area enough for the extraction with all the ... "swellness". OK. Fine. Now, have they followed up? No. Nothing. What I have received from them in the mean time was a bill from the initial visit. Which confounded me because it was a routine visit with routine stuff, covered 100% by my routine Dental Insurance. I even called my dental insurance about it and was told that they saw the office had filed a claim for one child, not two - and they figured they were simply billing me for the second one. So. I called the Tucson Smiles again. Left a message, explaining the billing question, because I keep giving people benefit of the doubt. No one called back. EVENTUALLY I was ABLE to connect with someone after repeated attempts, explained the situation, they took my name and number and said they'd call me back (irony) . . . . . still haven't heard anything. I really wanted this to be our kids' dentist.
