I am a local personal trainer in Rochester, and I have shared many clients with Dr. Helen, and I have been treated by her as well. Dr. Helen has helped my clients immensely with both chronic and acute problems in a way that other practitioners have not been able to. Dr. Helen looks at each person as a whole being, she assesses their entire body and its movement patterns to get to the root cause of the reason they are there to see her. She asks about their lifestyle and offers recommendations that support the entirety of their well being not just their specific problem. Dr. Helen is extremely professional to work with as a patient and a fellow professional, she truly cares about the outcome with her patients and she will take her time to speak about their care, and make sure that they are truly set up for success. Dr. Helen gives at home exercises that support her sessions so that you can gain tools to feel better quickly, and support the work she does with you in person. I would highly recommend working with Dr. Helen, and many others pale in comparison to what she has to offer. Dr. Helen truly is unique in a world where people don't take their time with you anymore, she does.
I highly recommend True North including for athletes working through sports injuries. I came to Helen for the first time three years ago with a goal of running my first long distance race. Up to that point I had never run more than 7 miles or so. She gave me exercises to help build my leg strength and address some IT band issues I was having. I was able to successfully finish my first half marathon that summer! The following year when I was training for my first full marathon, I had a new set of issues pop up. I returned for a visit and Helen was able to identify the problem and recommend additional exercises and taping. My injuries quickly resolved and I finished my race pain free. This summer I’m training for my first ultra race and so far thanks to the exercises and help Helen has given me previously I have been able to train injury free however I know who I will be calling next time I’m in need!
In 2 sessions, Helen helped eliminate my pain! She didn't just focus on the hip but was able to treat me holistically. She worked on breathing strategies, hip joint mobilizations, and big toe mobility along with core and posture training to help restore pain free walking and hiking. I am a physical therapist myself and was very impressed with her efficiency, manual therapy skills, and empathy. She took her time and was very deliberate about which exercises to choose. Overall, her care was a breath of fresh air compared to the medical system that is too focused on checking boxes. She took time to listen to my story and was focused on what was driving the pain as opposed to the location of pain. The results weren't just short term and a year out, I am still pain free!
Dr. Helen is the most thorough and comprehensive PT in Rochester. During an evaluation, she takes the time for a thorough medical history to understand the cause and source of your pain. Her treatment focuses on all body parts that could be influencing your symptoms. The homework she gives is targeted on addressing any possible weakness or deficiency. I saw Dr. Helen for pelvic pain caused by a long standing injury and I left her office feeling substantial improvement with an actionable plan of care. Dr. Helen's knowledge of Pilates is an added bonus, because it is a fun way to strengthen muscles you never knew existed that could be affecting your pain and way of life. Dr. Helen's PT education and training is from outside the Rochester region, which is a fresh breath of air. She is trained in orthopedics and pelvic floor with a strong emphasis on functional relationships. She does a great job with Dr.-patient alliance and I feel like the two of us are battling my pain together. Her office environment is warm and welcoming. I have seen six PTs in the Rochester region and Helen is by far the most caring, comprehensive and knowledgeable of anyone. Dr. Helen has my strongest possible recommendation for a PT in the Rochester region.
