We have been customers in Dubuque of banks that eventually turned into US Bank since 1975. We now live in San Diego and still bank with US Bank with our Checking, Savings and Business Account. We have underage grandchildren that live in Dubuque that we write checks to for their birthdays. Our youngest who turned 6 today took his check to US Bank - the bank his birthday check was written on and was charged $7.00 to cash his birthday check. I called the bank at HYVee and originally talked to Sandy who indicated she didn't help our 6 year old grandson then she connected me with who she said was the bank manager Naomi. Naomi indicated to me that was bank policy and that the charge comes up and she cannot override it. I write checks to all my underage grandchildren who in turn go to the bank it was written on US Bank and cash their $100 dollar birthday check and receive a $100.00 bill. Why should I pay an extra $7.00 so my grandson can receive $100 for his birthday. I didn't understand why a branch manager was unable to waive a $7.00 charge or why I would be charged to write a check on my account with US Bank. Naomi indicated she was not the bank manager and that the bank manager was not there also she was not sure why Sandy had indicated she was the bank manager. In fact Naomi said Sandy had more time than her. So not only did the bank make my six year old cry at the bank because he wasn't getting a $100 bill but Sandy out and out lied to me on the phone. To top it off my daughter who does not bank at US Bank had to go to the money machine pay US Bank $2.50 to get out $20.00 to pay the seven dollars so our grandson could get a $100 bill for his birthday. Now we have paid $9.50 at our own bank to get a check cashed written on our own bank by me where there was plenty of money to cover the $100.00. Looking for somewhere else more customer friendly to bank after all these years.
