I kept hearing from my friends, Best sushi in town, so I had to try. For parking just go like you're gonna go to chops and there's a valet. The door to the restaurant is hard to find. You're gonna come up the stairs or take the elevator to this fake grass open area, just walk straight across, that the entry is so hard to find is ridiculous, I had to ask a cop how the hell to get in this place. So they get a ding right there. Love the atmosphere very cool, very warming, very Asian authentic look, big, open space, huge sushi bar area. The service was amazing.l I was just on top of it. The sushi is excellent, and it is great quality. Everything we ordered from salmon to shrimp to tuna all delicious, all fresh. The only bad thing are the prices, ridiculous, just over the top. I will not go back, not because it was bad food or service in anyway, but I've got other sushi places that are just as good and half the price, but you go ahead and enjoy and bring your wallet cause you're going to need it.
One of my wife’s best friends go to Sushi spots. Ended up splurging and taking her out for her birthday. We absolutely devoured some delicious Uni, Otoro, and Chutoro. Although this place stays busy, the service was decent this go around. Quality of the sushi is always spot on - and it better be for the price point!Food: 5/5
Very hip and extremely loud. A first date will most definitely not work here, romantic atmosphere is what you want….? Not the place, most definitely has something because it was packed but what it was I yet to find out. Will I return? Probably not.Food: 3/5
Umi Sushi is a chic and sophisticated dining destination in the trendy Buckhead area of Atlanta, GA exudes an air of elegance and refinement. If you ever can find the door, you are transported into a realm of sleek sophistication and refined elegance. It embodies the philosophy of omotenashi, or the spirit of hospitality, where every detail is carefully considered to ensure a memorable dining experience. Soft lighting and subtle Japanese-inspired décor envelop you in an atmosphere of warmth and authenticity. Master Sushi chefs work their magic, crafting extortionary creations, a masterpiece of freshness, precision, and artistry. It is the perfect destination for sushi enthusiasts and discerning diners alike, seeking a culinary adventure. What I Tasted: For starters a collection of tender cuts of tuna as nigiri and tataki that melt in your mouth. My main course featuring tuna and sautéed foie gras, a delicacy with a rich, buttery texture and luxurious flavor with a velvety smoothness that coats the palate. And let us not forget my dessert that was described on the menu only as “Just order it. No words can do it justice.” —a warm cake donut paired with almost frozen custard, a heavenly perfect balance of sweet and textures to treat for the senses. And of course, I tried the Tamago, and it was executed to demonstrate the chef's skills and dedication to the craft.  Standout Feature: Umi is more than just a restaurant; it is a celebration of culinary tradition and craftsmanship. Each dish is a labor of love, reflecting the dedication and passion of the chefs. It is a place where simplicity meets sophistication, and every bite tells a story of artistry and skill.  What Was Mid: While Umi's discreet facade adds to its allure, finding the entrance can be more than a bit of a challenge for first-time visitors. But trust me, the culinary journey that awaits inside is well worth the effort of locating this hidden treasure. Also, trust me if you cannot find it you need to ask someone…
Best restaurant in Atlanta hands down. Omakase counter is A+. Owner is next level restauranteur.Food: 5/5
I ordered umi Omakase, and it was decent food. Just different style than what I expect. But still 10/10Food: 5/5
Saw some of the nightmarish reviews and terrible treatment of Black people, but we love food and took a chance. I did wear my finest Adidas and hope the discrimination has been addressed. Be that as it may, some of the most amazing flavors and some of the freshest fish I’ve ever tasted inside Atlanta. Every dish was beautiful. This was our second visit for my birthday, truly a treat.
Edit Sep 7, 2023: the service was significantly worse than my prior visits - nobody came up to our table for the first 10 minutes. And to add to it, I'm not sure if it's their setup or acoustics but it was migraine-inducing loud even though we were seated outside - and this was just from other tables talking. We couldn't take it after a while and went to the adjacent Chai Yo instead. If I wanted stupid noise and having to yell to try and have a conversation, I'd just have gone to a club instead. ------------------------------------ Great food but service could be improved and the fact that you can't take leftovers to go, makes it limiting. All the food we ordered was delicious - the yellowtail jalapeno, aburi, and even the veggie roll. Solid flavors and great presentation! We really enjoyed their sake selection and the chocolate kyu was fun and they did a good job taking our dietary restrictions into consideration. However, outside of that, the service seemed to be a bit lacking for a restaurant like this. Our server seemed distracted while we were asking them about the menu and the busser was in a real rush to clear out our plates even though we were way earlier than closing time. We were also celebrating a birthday and despite asking us what the event was, they didn't seem to care or bring it up unlike most restaurants we've been to. Finally, not allowing diners to box leftovers really limited us from trying out more things on the menu.
This place was the best sushi experience of my 55 year old life, and I have been eating sushi in CA since 1992. Our favorites were the Nigiri daily specials of fatty tuna, Japanese red snapper. We got the chef special 2 piece which was excellent. The eel box was good. The tuna carpaccio was incredible! We finished with crepe cake and chocolate bomb. The crepe cake was wonderful and not overly sweet. We had an amazing time for my BFF’s birthday. Good sushi is an experience, also check out the bathrooms.
Sushi was great. Best cocktails of any sushi restaurant I’ve been to in Atlanta, albeit a bit pricey. Service was excellent. Parking: Use the valet for parking, it’s cheaper than self-parking.
