I've been coming to Uncle Yu's for many years and often times the staff lacks good customer service, including the woman in the front who answers the phone to take food orders. Just the other day, I asked for soy sauce because I have not been getting any in my last 2 take out orders. I got shamed, questioned, and blamed over mentioning the lack of soy sauce I've not been receiving. She even shamed me for a 2nd time when I arrived to pick up my food regarding soy sauce. I really don't appreciate being treated disrespectfully as a customer and especially as a regular customer. To make my experience even more memorable, my entire salad contained all rotten pieces of lettuce and had hair in it. I ended up throwing my salad in the garage. Last but not least, please stop asking your customers if they want to tip the kitchen staff on "take out" orders . It's tacky and low class to ask. We are past Covid times and people will tip if they choose to on take out orders. No need to ask anymore.
Excellent and nicely presented Asian food. The service was quick. The two of us split the Lemon Chicken and Hong Kong thin and crispy noodles with vegetables and chicken entres. The noodles were just as desired and both dishes satisfied. Nice decor. Limited parking.
My friend and I were terribly disappointed with the food and service. We have been going to the restaurant for over 15 years. We ordered Mu Shu Vegetables and Fun Chow noodles with chicken for birthday dinner. Initially, they brought out pre-made MuShu Vegetables wrapped as a main meal. I said that we wanted to eat together at the same time and wanted the food hot.. The server took away the food. Then my friend asked about about the Spicy Crispy Shrimp and was told that it came by itself and any rice was separate. The Chow Fun had small scraps of chicken and short noodles. The Mu Shu Vegetables had some onion, tofu and slivered cabbage. It didn't have any color. Neither of the dishes looked appealing. The waitress was very rude, didn't ask if everything was okay. She never gave us more water or hot tea. Another server asked if everything was ok and we said it wasn't. She took our plates and walked away. We asked if there was a new chef and were told no.
Our first meal in the U.S one word, outstanding, the service was excellent and the portion sizes huge. The rest of our 3 week trip now has competition, i think it will be hard to beat.
Good food, elegant atmosphere This lovely, white-tablecloth restaurant has been at this location for many years. The service is very fast but not all that friendly. I don't think of it as particularly authentic. The takeout service is super fast and convenient.
Good food but closed on Christmas day... I had to drive to Oakland's China Town.. How times have changed, I went by not expecting to stop but had a craving, I drove by after being taken advantage of this afternoon for lunch at WazWan in Emeryville $24.50 for a Togo lunch that a month ago cost me $12.50 for more food.. so I didn't want to pay big money so I went to Panda just up the street, I saw a long line and drove through the parking lot with no spaces and at the end of the centers parking lot is an alley way into Uncle Yu'$$$ parking lot. I went in and ordered a 30 year old favorite Manderine Triple Crown and BBQ Pork Fried Rice. togo $33.81, WOW! It ain't that special!
Served disgusting heated leftovers for a takeout order. The honey walnut shrimp was particularly offensive having clearly been microwaved to complete mush. I feel like my family was ripped off ordering from this place and we will be sure to stay far away in the future.
Love love the eggplant! The last time we came one order equaled 5 pieces. This time each order had probably ten!! And we were a party of four and we each placed order for eggplant. And…we all ate every piece. Highly recommend the eggplant!! Service was pleasant. Not crowded for obvious reasons. We had a beautiful window table looking out at the twinkling lights of Mt.Diablo Blvd.
If I have a good experience with a restaurant, dining in or takeout, it's because most of the dishes I order are very good or better. The opposite is also true, as was the case last weekend at Uncle Yu's, which used to come very highly regarded a couple years ago. That memory drove me to pick it for an unusual night with takeout. Not going to do that again. Not until I'm sure the quality has improved. Orange beef, my all-time fav at any Chinese restaurant, was a greasy pile of beef chunks with nary an orange flavor in site. Threw leftovers away. The pork fried rice, another staple for me, was flavorless. Threw leftovers away. Pot stickers were a doughy mess with little pork stuffing which I forced down. I luv leftovers from Chinese restaurants. I've never thrown them away. I've always reveled in the day-old flavors being even better that when the meal is just-cooked. This was an all-time low for me . . .
To be honest, I've had better food. Don't get me wrong, Uncle Yu's is good, but priced too high. I can easily get the same quality of food for less, and same or more quantity per dish. My last round I ordered about $95 of food for family of four, I could have gotten the same for around $65-$70 somewhere else. I am disappointed with their seafood dishes, they are mostly simple and bland and not much variety. I know some people love this place, but for me I have to think twice before going.
