Currently on a trip from Portland to Seattle. Train was scheduled to leave at 3pm and arrive around 6pm. My train stopped in Longview for 3 hours, was told by the team that a BNSF freight train derailed and we had to wait for a greyhound bus to pick us up to drive us to Olympia. We got on the bus and waited another 30-45 minutes just sitting there and waiting, and we finally arrived in Olympia. Now we are being told that we have to wait an extra 15 minutes to check the train and it should take 1.5 hours to Seattle from Olympia. And any passengers going north of Seattle must take a bus. So I won’t be at my destination in Seattle until 10:45 pm?? When I should have been there 5 hours ago. The best part about it, there has been nothing done to serve the customer, such as a free meal, drink, or refund. NOTHING. I get that they share rails used by the government, but because any uncertainties like this are obviously a possibility, Amtrak should take this into account and SERVE the customer for their inconvenience. I am very unsatisfied, and wish I could leave no stars at all if it was an option.

One of the truly great train stations left in the West! The are of Portland around it is a little iffy but a line of cabs is always nearby. The train station is so azing and historic . Make sure to spend a few minutes looking around !

Union Station is a portal for public transportation (including bus) so the both the staff and clientele are, for the most part, what you would expect. Located in the old part of town (ghetto undergoing gentrification) it is an example of the "underbelly" of a city trying to mask it's inequities. Restrooms stink. Staff is low income. SECURITY ARE WANNABE LARGE AND IN CHARGE (rude, intimidating and detrimental to society)! It is the type of place and an experience that most people have segregated themselves from.

Great prices and it beats the hell out of driving or flying. The seats are bigger and more comfy(think first class on a jet), even if it's a little dated. There is a dining car to get food and you don't have to worry about all the hassels that flying(or driving) presents. Luggage is a breeze. I checked a bag and on my return trip it was too heavy to check so they just let me take it on the train! I was really impressed with the staff in Eugene. I had a return trip on a bus, but got to the station early when a train was waiting to depart. I asked if I could switch to the train and the gentleman behind the counter happily helped me get it switched for free! By far one of the best travelling experiences I have had! Thanks Amtrak!
