SNRE is the UA’s center-of-excellence for research, higher education, and training for the conservation and management of natural resources.
People are increasingly cognizant of the impacts human activity has on our plant, animal, and water resources at local and global scales, and aware of the need to mitigate those impacts. It is a great time to major in Natural Resources, where you can bring to bear your enthusiasm and talents to tackle challenging problems in science and management. You will interact with students, faculty, and staff who share your passion for understanding the world and affecting positive change. And you will learn how to integrate information about science, management, policy, economics, and planning to develop solutions to interdisciplinary challenges in natural resources conservation and management.
Students may pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment.
Undergraduates can earn a Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources with one of the following emphases:
• Conservation Biology
• Fisheries Conservation and Management
• Landscape Assessment and Analysis
• Rangeland Ecology and Management
• Watershed Management and Ecohydrology
• Wildlife Conservation and Management
Graduate students may earn a Master's or PhD degree in Natural resources with one of the following emphases:
• Natural Resource Studies
• Rangeland Ecology and Management
• Watershed Management and Ecohydrology
• Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation and Management
Graduate students may also earn an MS in Water, Society, and Policy or a PhD in Arid Lands Resource Sciences.
The School of Natural Resources and the Environment, in collaboration with the Department of Geography and Regional Development, offers post-baccalaureate studies in Geographic Information Science (GIS).
The mission of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment is to provide innovative and interdisciplinary research and applications that lead to sustainable management of the natural resources of Arizona, the West, and the Nation, and to educate existing practitioners and the next generation of resource managers, scientists and policy makers who will take on the challenge in an ever-changing world.
