Upper Clements Parks

Story

Upper Clements Parks is a seasonal theme park located in Upper Clements, Nova Scotia, Canada owned and operated by a non profit community group, The Upper Clements Parks Society. It is composed of two parks; Upper Clements Theme Park and Upper Clements Adventure Park.Upper Clements Parks is open daily from the beginning of June until the end of September. The park has two rollercoasters (one being a water coaster) and over 40 rides and attractions.HistoryUpper Clements Park was built by the province and opened in 1989 at a cost of $23 million. In 1993, in response to rumours that the park might be doomed to closure, a group of local businesses made a bid to run the park. However, a group of 16 businessmen from Hong Kong, under the name Amsdale Resources Management, were awarded a three-year lease instead. The Amsdale businessmen were motivated by fears surrounding the impending 1997 handover of Hong Kong from British to Chinese sovereignty, and their $500,000 investment in the park was a way to enter Canada through an immigration program centred on entrepreneurship. Amsdale made numerous cuts and annual attendance dropped from 90,000 to 70,000. The tunnel connecting the theme park and the wildlife park was also closed at this time.Another advertisement for expressions of interest in the park was issued in 1996, and the same group of Annapolis Valley businesses, calling themselves the Hanse Society (after the Hanseatic League), made a second bid for which there was no competition. They were awarded a 10-year lease in 1997. The new operators had to cut the locks to enter the premises. By this time, the park was "ravaged by neglect" with crumbling buildings and numerous missing inventory. The park received $1.37 million in funding from the government in 1998, and a further $1 million in 2003. The tunnel connecting the theme park and the wildlife park was reopened in 2000. Attendance rose to 100,000 in 2006 and the new management turned the park's operating deficit into an annual surplus of nearly $200,000.

I visited the Adventure Park section of Upper Clements Parks this morning and a had a great time on the zip line obstacle courses. There is a promotional price ($10 discount) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays until the end of July, which makes it even nicer! I am not a big fan of heights, but I had no problem on the course. The harness made me feel totally secure, and the construction of all the apparatus is well done. I'm going again before the end of the month!

Nice amusement park. Lots of attractions. Lines were not long when we were there. It is usually really hot and its a big park with lots of hills and walking. There is food on site but it is expensive. Attractions for all ages. It cost over $100 for one adult and 2 kids to walk in the door.

Firstly, great amusement park overall. Most rides are good for all ages, including the flume ride, the waterslide, and the park train. I would recommend not to go on the rollercoaster if you have any medical conditions; some perfectly healthy members of my family hurt their necks and backs due to the shaking. It is a decent place to buy food, you are never far from a snack shop/ general store/ ice cream place. Realistically it is 2 and a quarter hours from peninsular Halifax. Finally, the prices are good, and if you plan on going 2 or more times as a family, the seasons pass is the way to go.

Used to come every year with the kids, great memories. Only after paying full price for four did we find out today that everything we came for was either closed or under repair. Kids had fun but not happy. Magic mountain next year.

Do not try to eat here, the restaurants are very disorganized, you will spend your time waiting and not enjoying the attractions. Being a picnic lunch and experience will be different. I would like to think it is a function of peak times. But at 300pm its not busy. We have encountered this 2 times in the past 3 years. Don't even try to order food here. It's a sad state.
