We were recently informed on an annual family camping trip, on Memorial Weekend, to Indian Creek Campground in Pike's National Forrest, that we could no longer use ropes (ropes of any kind, size or material) to secure our tents, canopy's, tarps (or hammock's for that matter) to ANY tree's. Keep in mind that the ground was extremely went due to recent rain, and stakes were not staying secure in the ground. We had also already pitched our tent, tarps, hammocks, etc. (securing them with ropes to tree's due to the rain, moist conditions and extreme wind that day) When we asked the Camp Host (Ken) why this is not addressed, noted or advised on the Pike National Forrest / US Forest Service website(s) he had no answer other than, "They recently had a national/annual meeting and they (the Camp Host's) we instructed to not allow rope use within the campsites." He then offered to help us tear down our campsite. Ken then explained to us that we needed to remove the large spikes and nails in the tree's within our campsite. I told him we were OUT OF HERE!!! and further explained that the stakes and nails had been there for at least 8 years (as long as we HAD been coming to this campground) and I asked; "Who's bright idea is it to remove these large stakes from the tree's?" He answered with "the national Forrest service." I replied with, "well, at least we know now who has been killing all the tree's in Colorado." I used the experience to teach our 7-year old that rules are rules and we need to respect them. POINT: Informing campers/families, that they are not to be allowed to use ropes to secure their tents, tarps, camp gear and trash in a tree "AFTER" they have already set-up a campsite, or "AFTER" they have already arrived at the site, with NO posted, provided information of any kind, other than "YOU CAN'T" is ludicrous. Ken went into this explanation afterwards about the special fabric, (canvas?) hangers we're supposed to use instead of rope, however, could not show us one, tell us where to get one, or show us a picture of one for that matter. So, given this ORDER as was past-down from the US Forest Service, Can you please provide an answer as to what campers are to use to secure their tents, tarps and, or hang a hammock in a campground without using ropes tied to tree's? That would be really helpful. So, can anyone within the nation's US Forest Service upload, provide, post or share this magical material for securing tree's, tarps and hammocks to tree's within campsites WITHOUT using ropes? Thank you. That would be great! I guess now is the time to drive a camper into the campground, as tents and tarps, secured by ropes are basically no longer allowed. And, lastly, please have the genius who told Ken to take the Nails and large Stakes out of the tree's in the Forest/campgrounds, CONTACT ME...so that I can provide intelligent, correct, scientific, data as to HOW and WHY you WILL kill these tree's.

Came here to buy our Christmas Tree permit on the first day they opened for buying them. They made it easy and very calming. I was nervous about everything but they just took my date and source of payment in exchange for my permit, spent less than 5 minutes in line! Awesome.
