I regretfully write this review as Elizabeth City public services have overall served our city well and I'm thankful for them. I have received great customer service from those behind the counter at the Post Office, so thank you. Yet, I've had an experience with the Postmaster in the last month that until this point, I thought might be able to be resolved behind the scenes, but is hasn’t. I arrived at the Elizabeth City Post Office around 4:15pm and the line was a bit long. At close of business (4:30pm) I and several others were still in line. The custom had been for as long as I've lived here that a gentleman locks the door to prevent more people from entering after hours and unlocks the door as each person finishes their postal business. This particular evening, a man I'd not seen prior to this incident, locked the door and walked away into the back. I finished my business there around 4:33pm and went to the door to walk out and it was locked. The persons behind the counter rang the bell several times, the people in line were knocking on the door to get the man to come back and about 8 minutes passed and then the man who'd locked the door came back. At this point, I was in a bit of a panic as we were locked in a building and no one was responding. I said to this man who had locked the door, "This is not OK to lock people in a building a walk away." He replied, "Well maybe you'll show up earlier next time and you won't get locked in." I told him to please open the door and he replied, "No, let's talk about this." I said I had nothing to talk about and to please open the door. By this point others were also asking him to please open the door and he was ignoring them as well. I finally said, "You know this is illegal and a fire hazard, right?" Without saying anything further, he opened the door. It was 4:43pm (13 minutes from the time he locked the door @ 4:30pm). I went back to make a complaint and found out that this man was the Postmaster (Derek E. Boone) and he was the one I would have to make the complaint to. I left a message with the person above him and haven't received a response. I feel like this incident was NOT OK and most certainly is a civil violation of our rights.

I have had my mail displayed in my mailbox for 4 days. When my mail was not picked up after day 2, I resorted to making a bright red, painted plastic tube. It has been in my mailbox for 2 days. My neighbors ACROSS THE STREET can see my mail. It is now Friday, the 9th of February and, my mail has NOT been picked up. This has happened 3 other times. I cannot understand how my mail carrier could possibly miss this. This is a gross oversight. The mail is a sacred institution. Prompt and professional collection is extremely important. I am thoroughly disgusted with the totally unprofessional, and, frankly, lazy service. This type of service is expected in third world countries. Do I have to literally camp out and wait for the mail carrier? I will be contacting the post office and issuing a formal complaint. Mail delivered after six pm, mail not picked up or, ignored, is not acceptable.

Checked the status of an order from Amazon and the portion that was shipped via USPS Had the following note. Your action required From USPS at Sunday, January 7: Carrier is unable to gain access to front door to deliver the package. Please contact the carrier to resolve. I know we had a good snow storm a few days before but I was home all day Sunday and there was not an attempted delivery, no note, nothing. The mail came and went Monday without a package being delivered, must of got lost somewhere along the way. Can't wait for Tuesday I know the highlight of my day will be standing in line at the post office trying to find my package. The other part of the order was delivered on Monday by a under appreciated gentlemen driving a brown truck and more deliveries to make. Go UPS! I wish Amazon would drop the post office altogether there service is on par with what you would find in a third world nation. Sorry for the rant, I'm just burning off steam.

I walked inside the post office to buy an envelope to ship something, & a guy yelled HELLO behind the counter, then again. & the lady yelled "CAN WE HELP YOU?" I was in there for a short amount of time, just trying to find the right size envelope. They scared me off. How exactly would I need assistance picking up an envelope. Learn customer service skills.

On multiple occasions have i had to pick up my packages that were supposed to be delivered by their carriers do to the fact theyr are to lazy to bring them to the door, but this cuts the cake. We have failed to receive 2 certified letters from my husband's job thay needed to be signed for and there were no tickets posted on the door or in the mail box saying that they have missed us. I stay at home with our children so there is no excuse for it. Due to the negligence of the mail carriers it about cost my husband his job and we are absolutely furious. Please hire people who are capable of doing their jobs so we can receive our important mail!!!!!
