We came here for my birthday on Friday January 19th. Was told the wait for a lane would 2 hours because of a Drake student party. I wasn’t planning on waiting the whole time but we stayed and played a game of pool. The bar tender was nice and friendly. While having a drink we noticed more than half of the lanes reamained open. So we asked again and the kid at the counter started being rude. Said all the lanes were reserved for Drake. So we stayed for an hour and a half and continued to play pool. I asked one more time before we left for a lane, and they wouldn’t give us one. Right when we were leaving, the Drake kids started leaving. They never even occupied half of the lanes the whole time. I was very disappointed in my experience at Val Lanes. I’ve been coming here since I was a child and I just turned 35. I’m sorry to say that I’ll never give them business ever again. I’ll also tell my kids not to ever come. Oh my friends will be hearing about this as well. That’s a lot of people. What a shame. Merle Hay lanes it is.

Merle hay lanes is 100% better in every measure. Val Lanes didnt even have bowling balls for us, nor food. What a joke.

A New Year’s Day waste of time & money. Took the family to bowl & doubt if we will ever go here again. Zero personality from the older couple at the front desk, zero concern when our bowling balls continually got stuck behind the pins & zero thanks when we left. The older lady looked annoyed when we asked to put the bumpers up & when we told them about the ball return. Sad, because I would like to get my kids interested in bowling, but they had a negative experience. Would give zero stars if possible.

It's a typical scummy bowling alley.  It looks half thrown together.  There's typical bar food and a full bar and typical uncomfortable tables and chairs to sit at while waiting your turn.  After 9 the prices are cheap but I probably won't to again.

Worst center in the metro. I’ve seen a lot in my years of bowling. The front desk girl couldn’t even spell a name I spelled out for her. The floors were dirty, the service sucked, and most of all I was over charged for shoes when I brought my own. Nobody here seems to care which sucks. This place has potential. But until someone new buys it, it will stay the same crappy center. OR they can lower there prices to match the rest of the centers in the Des Moines metro. And hire someone that cares about the center.
