Val Verde Winery

About

Tastefully Texan Since 1883

Story

Val Verde Winery was established by Italian immigrant Frank Qualia in 1883. He bagan making wine for the family and friends from the Lenoir grape and eventually made the wines available for purchase. After his death, his son, Louis Qualia took over the vineyards and began expanding production. In 1933 he introduced the French Herbemont grape to Texas.
Today, the winery is the full time business of third gereration vintner Thomas Qualia. He respects the efforts and expertise that preceded him and continues the Qualia family legacy of offering various wines of excellent quality. Many of his wines have gained the attention of serious wine connoisseurs; particularly his Don Luis Tawny Port, which has received recognition from California to New York.
2008 marked Val Verde Winery's 125th year of continuous winemaking. It is the oldest bonded winery in the state of Texas and received the Texas Centruy Farm Award from the Department of Agriculture for single-family ownership of the vineyards for the over 100 years.
Because of the rich history and family tradition, the Val Verde Winery is a Texas landmark and an innovative presence in the growing Texas wine industry. Its survival and prosperity is a testament to its past and an inspiration to its future.

This is the longest operating winery in Texas nested in a quiet spot on the border. Their Tawny Port is best port I've ever had (had it on 4 continents).

First found this wine in Central Texas while on vacation. Definitely a great wine and love supporting a winery from my birth town of Del Rio, Texas. Cheers!
