They don't respond in time, really drags you down when you're trying to change your living conditions
My son had to leave school for a medical reason. He took one class remotely. I paid a full semester of tuition, housing and meal plan, even though he was only there for one week before getting sick. I received $125 refund. The housing office now says that my son never applied for remote status in time. He was in the hospital so a little difficult for him to do. They would not allow me to do. He somehow was able to take the class remotely but the status was never changed to remote and the office will not refund. My son did not even know the process of how to get a "remote status" or that such a status was required. Again, he was SICK and in the hospital.
Stop reading right here. Actually, don't read the reviews at all--the only people who are posting here are those who are salty about not getting into lottery-based housing assignments. Housing at Vandy is getting better and better each year. I've had a decent time working with the staff to get room and board sorted out here. Eventually, all the dorms will be converted to residential colleges and communities, but the people who are complaining don't seem to understand it, instead resorting to posting negative reviews based on a single point of their experience. Thousands of students progress through here just fine and have a positive experience. Stop whining, enjoy college, and learn a lot.
Absolutely awful experience. There are roaches in the dorms and they don't do anything to get you into different housing when you encounter them. They tell you to put in a maintenance request but there's really nothing to be done about roaches. I don't get why we should have to live in these conditions.
Long story short, I was told by this office that I could turn in my key via mail because I forgot to turn it in when on campus if I got it there before the due date. I used 2-day shipping to get it there and then got charged $50. Upon emailing them, I was told that no mailed keys were allowed. I could have literally mailed it to a friend instead to turn in and not gotten charged. Ridiculous.
Just let the CS majors develop the Housing Portal. How can it barely handle 1 request/minute? You won't be able to blame the software vendors anymore.
Each of the four places I've lived on campus has been quite comfortable. Housing policies can be difficult to navigate but make sense in most circumstances.
An absolutely pathetic housing system that desparaely needs a major reform. The housing office needs to compensate those who pay the same housing tuition as any student to live in dorms that are far less better than the newer ones i.e. living in Hank vs Gillette Hall
I would love to give a 0 star, but it's not an option. This organization does not care for its students at all and is rude to anyone who asks for anything reasonable.
I met some of the most unpleasant people here during my study at Vanderbilt. They are indifferent about students’ health and lives.
