I cannot say enough about this place. First of all, their neurology department is amazing. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. Our dog has a degenerative spinal disease and has been treated here for a few years. I’ve called sobbing. They are always there to help. They all go above and beyond to treat and diagnose. We are so so lucky to have such a brilliant and talented staff of animal lovers to take care of our babies. Truly amazing

This veterinary hospital saved our cat's life and we are very grateful. He had a terrible wound in his palate (from a fight outside or crunching a broken mouse bone? - we don't know) that we didn't know about until it festered and infected his sinus and ear canal, also damaging control nerves to one eye. He was bleeding from his nose, one eye was sunken, not eating, so very very sick. Our local VCA vet in Waterford looked him over and got us into the Shelton Hospital that afternoon, a 90 minute drive for us. They checked him in right away. Dr. Acquaviva and the staff dealt with the festering wound in the palate, stitched him up, injected antibiotics, took good care of him. We brought him home two days later, prognosis good. Since then our cat has totally recovered, even the nerve damage to his eye is gone. We are now in the process of turning him into an inside cat (wish us luck). The hospital was totally helpful and also very mindful of the cost of treatment, advising us on costs - discussing what might be needed and trying to reduce the cost impact where possible. We are extremely grateful for this Hospital and their expertise.

I went to this vca thinking it would be an easy time and it was not. My family and I had a dog come in for passing and we did most the work to get the poor dog on the stretcher while the techs just watched us so they can just strap her. Could of asked us for help if that was the case I should have just carried her in. Then spending time in the room alone the door was slammed on us asking if we wanted to speak with the doctor. Could of asked nicer. The only person that was nice was the women at reception that night. When picking up my dogs remains I looked at the information on my passed pet and the information was wrong. I don't understand how they had the sex wrong and the paw print was not very nice looking, the paw was not on all the way.

this is my second time going to this location and i am not pleased. i took my dog in who had a animal bite and they wanted to do so many unnecessary things that would’ve cost almost 2,000 dollars, after denying to do the most which was draining the bite with a $700 dollar hose, we ended up just telling the doctor to clean out the cut and give my dog stitches, the doctor looked at us like we were crazy and after a half of hour of arguing and telling us it could potentially kill my dog if we don’t “drain it” she walked out and listened to just give my dog stictches my dog is fine and has no infections and is healthy and happy as ever 2 weeks later. we were told the surgery was going to take 30 minutes to a hour so we left at 1am came back at 2am and waited till 3am till the doctor came out and told us they were wiping her off and bringing her out. after TWO hours of what “wiping off” was i decided to ask someone at the front desk where my dog was. i asked to visit her and he took me back and my dog was under a sink and covered in dirty hair covered blankets. they told me her temperature wasn’t going up but as soon as my dog saw me she looked at my and tried getting up. i went out and 10 minutes later the doctor brought her out. we also had a situation with my cat but it’s about the same as you can imagine. it’s just sad to see how this veterinary treats animals it saddens me that they take advantage. save you money and go somewhere else!

As I read some of these negative reviews I wonder if this was the same facility I’ve been going to for the past 11 WEEKS! VCA was recommended by my regular vet as my black lab, Lambeau (8 yrs), had a soft tissue injury to her back foot and needed a soft tissue orthopedic surgeon. After 2 surgeries, medications, weekly and initially up to 3x a week dressing changes I can honestly say the care my dog has received has been OUTSTANDING! Her specialty surgeon, Dr. Acquaviva, is wonderful - kind, compassionate, informative in giving every possible reason/option/scenario available, and has never made me feel rushed and patiently answers my endless questions!!!! And believe me I can be tough. We had one misunderstanding regarding drop off time for her initial surgery and when I told the front office of my issue/concern, it was corrected and explain to me with a phone call from her surgeon. As said, after having weekly appointments for 11 WEEKS, I would highly recommend VCA and their wonderful staff that have made this very unfortunate injury for our labby as pleasant as possible. I wanted to also mention the excellent care we received from Dr. Roche, Dr. Nolte, Dr. Stanford-Lewis and the lovely, Nurse Tammy, Vet Techs - Sarah, Anna, Stephanie and all the awesome staff up front, Louise and her team!!!!!!!!!! One important note I’d like to leave you with - THIS IS AN EMERGENCY FACILITY! Being there weekly for so long, I’ve seen ALOT! The volume this facility deals with is massive. Believe me I’m all about me, my dog being #1, but please have a little patience and if you don’t know how things work, have a bad experience or feel unhappy - SPEAK UP TO THEM IN PERSON! These physicians and entire staff work very hard under high pressures - a little kindness goes a long way.
