I have been to this place about 5 times. It has been busy one of those times. It is in a weird location, it's part of a hotel, and I think it's overshadowed by the Reston Town Center. The fare is kind of fancy. Unless you are in the industry there will be items on the menu of which you have never heard. Yet it is not so formal that you would feel uncomfortable coming straight here from the office. I like that many of the entries are served with the individual elements -- vegetable, starch, protein, for example -- together, rather than each occupying it's own real estate on the plate. Rather than having great tasting portions of each, they are presented as a single unified flavor creation. Yum! Highly recommended.

Went by mistake. We'd planned to go to the Westin Herndon for happy hour, but didn't check the address. I've been to Vinifera before, but this visit was a pleasant surprise. We had martinis, with creative and tasty selections. The pig wings were flavorful, the humus had a personality, the shrimp cocktail came with a twist, loved the cheese dip, and the bison burger provided enough sustenance for me for the evening. The only issue is they're planning to eliminate proper martini glasses, apparently due to breakage. Please don't. I'd knock off a star for that.

Food was good, but lacks ambience and quality service. The place was empty on a Saturday at 7. The outdoor seating was okay, but it was dead. Our waiter was nice but inattentive. Twenty-thirty minutes after we ordered our entree, our server came over to tell us their system was done so our order wasn’t placed. He then came back and told us (matter-of-factly) that we’d need to go use the atm bc the system was down. The manager (Vincent?) came over and comp’d our entrees and drinks. The entrees were good, but nothing special. This could be a decent place, even for a hotel restaurant, but there’s a reason that it was empty. The service, while apologetic, was sub-standard and the location is not optimal for a non-hotel crowd.

Excellent service and vast selection of wine. Go-to place for a romantic experience.
