Story

Wagner Roofing Company is a family-owned company which was established in 1914 by Otto Wagner. At its founding, the company was based at 2609 Evarts Street in northeast Washington. Otto worked in the field, while managing the company, for 23 years until his death in 1937 when his son, Jack Saunders Wagner, took over leadership of the business.
As manager of the company, Jack maintained Otto’s philosophy of servicing the customer while providing quality workmanship.

In addition, Jack also continued working in the field as a craftsman. Under his leadership, the business grew to the point that it eventually
became necessary to move to a larger facility. So, in 1951, the company relocated to 2024 Rhode Island Avenue, NE. Under Jack’s
management, the company continued to grow and prosper until he was compelled to retire in 1962 due to health problems.

In order to keep the business in the family and to maintain continuity, Jack’s oldest son Jack Jr. returned from college to assume the role of company president. In 1960, Jack was joined by his younger brother, Chuck, who had just graduated from LaSalle College.

Together, the two brothers managed the company by adhering to the same philosophy and goals as their father and grandfather.
In 1971, due to continuing expansion, the company moved to its present location at 4909 46th Avenue in Hyattsville. This building underwent extensive renovations in 1996 and again in 1998 and now consists of up-to-date administrative offices, service/dispatch offices, a sheet metal shop, a truck service bay and a warehouse. These changes occurred under the direction of Chuck and his wife, Sheila, who together assumed full leadership of the company in 1992. They served as President and Vice President until 2014 when Dean Jagusch became President of the company, the first non family member to be named President. Chuck currently serves as CEO and Sheila as Vice President. As the company enters its second century of operation, the Wagner family continues the tradition of providing quality workmanship and customer service.
