Story

An institution in Porter County packed with hungry, happy rib aficionados. Full slabs or half slabs are presented with good selection of sides like fresh hot waffle fries, onion rings by the stack, coleslaw and an enormous selection of beers. Wagner's also has a fine reputation for its grilled Filet Mignon, Ribeye and half-pound Hamburgers and our sauteed Lake Perch Homemade soups change daily. Eli's cheesecakes for dessert.

What happened to this restaurant?  It used to be one of our favorites for years!  The bartender was rude...maybe having a bad day?  All four people in our party had issues with their orders. My lake perch was cold and a tiny portion for the price. No butter, tarter sauce, sour cream came out with the plate as requested.  It took 5 more minutes for our waitress to return with those few simple items.  We felt like an inconvenience to this establishment rather than a welcome guest.  Overall, it was a terrible dining experience!  We will not return.

Stopped in passing through and let me say the ribs were the best i have had. All the sides were good...the only down fall was we were over charged by almost $13.00. We were going off the web site prices. Didn't realize until we were at our destination 2 hours away.

Found this restaurant in a review in Midwest Living magazine and in a book from the Indiana dunes visitors center. Excellent local restaurant/ tavern. Great outdoor seating option as well. Everything we had was terrific - fall off the bones ribs, pan seared lake perch, baked beans, Cole slaw & corn bread pancakes are all made from scratch & yummy. Eat local, you can't beat it.

Excellent food at a great price.  Best ribs I have ever eaten. I usually get the dry rub but the bbq are also excellent. A decent selection of good beer. I have never been disappointed.

Haven't had many dishes other than the ribs and macaroni and cheese because that is their specialty. They are exceptional and are worth a scenic ride from Crown Point. No one under 21 is allowed though so leave the kids behind or carryout.  Outside seating was nice no wind or bugs. It is a bar so expect that atmosphere there. I have never seen it roudy but has a nice mix of young and old so go no matter what age group you are in. Bar area has games on the big screen. Go early (before  6) for easy seatting
