At 1:34 PM today (April 7th, 2017) I made a call to the 5th District Police Department about something alarming I saw at the Costco. There was a woman screaming at and continually beating her toddler in the back of her car over a piece of trash left on the floorboard, while her younger child watched. I called DC Child Protective Services first, who in turn told me to call the local police department. NOTE: I do not know the woman who was beating her child. All I was able to write down was the license plate number on her car. I called the police department, and the gentleman (if you want to call him that) who picked up the phone was incredibly rude. I guess he thought I was wasting his time. "Did the child ask you for help?" Obviously he didn't, he was a small boy probably two or three years old. "We can't interfere with discipline... if you can't even verify his age there is really nothing I can do.." Well gee, officer, I DON'T KNOW THEM. How the heck am I supposed to know the exact age of said child? And I'm pretty sure hitting a small child in the face MULTIPLE TIMES is not just discipline. I am OKAY with child discipline, but what I saw was ABUSE. He wouldn't even take the license plate number, and clearly didn't care about what I was saying. I thought the whole point of being a police officer was to protect your community? I feel bad for the people living in this area, because it was very clear to me that this officer doesn't give a crap.
