We celebrated Valentines Day here. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated immediately. They were very accommodating. Our waiter was perfect and made excellent suggestions. They had a prix fixe 4 course menu: we had the raw oysters, calamari, clam chowder, 1.5 lb lobster, Chilean Sea bass with butternut squash gnocchi and rolls...we both had NY cheesecake with strawberry sauce. Almost forgot, as a Valentines day gift they gave us a wine stopper!! So sweet
We wanted to treat ourselves to a nice lunch out baby, pandemic, needed a moment for ourselves and wanted an open air restaurant. Water Grill was perfect. Tables are perfectly spread out. Service was great! And the food was so savory so the portions were perfectly filling. And of course, a nice view of the ocean. Will be back.
Absolutely amazing experience! The service was friendly, the drinks were excellent, and the food was utterly delicious. I had two lovely cocktails as well as a whole New Zealand Pink Sea Bream with mashed potatoes. I would highly recommend dining here as you look out over the glistening ocean. Update: Gregorio is the most amazing, charismatic, kind, and talented person I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. He made my experience special each time I have visited the Water Grill and I will definitely be going back soon. Thank you so much Gregorio!
We stopped by and decided to have late lunch here at 4:05pm. The receptionist said dinner time had started, which was ok. We were seated at the corner in the semi open space inside, it felt like in a convertible and the ocean view was right behind us. The view is worth the visit. It is really awesome. The food was good and the waitress, Kirsten, was really courteous that she never let the water run down to the bottom of the small glass cup and constantly checked on us. She is really the treasure of the place. The only thing we felt odd was that, towards the end of our late lunch or early dinner, the receptionist put 2 guys next to our table while the whole place was still empty. The table is quite close to each other and we can hear each other’s conversations. When it is full, we can understand, but the whole place was pretty empty. Why? We canceled the idea of dessert and left. That is the only drawback. The receptionist was polite, he said thank you to us while we walked out. The food is good, the view is awesome and the service is excellent. Everything is great except that tiny drawback…
Parking- there’s valet right out front. We came for the seafood tower. Lots of fresh items and a tray of 6 sauces/condiments. The scallops were the only item that was already seasoned and I thought that was the best imo! Outdoor seating available outside with a view of the roaring cars and traffic passing by with the coast and ocean beyond that. Very touristy area. Heat lamps near every table that they will turn on near early evening. They only kept us warm if were were directly near it as there is no tent/awning/shelter overhead to trap the heat. Indoor seating has tables and booth seating. With a bar in the middle. Food The warm items weren’t the best. Stick to the fresh raw bar items.
Outstanding seafood restaurant. The baked Oysters are amazing. Ridiculous $$$ Alaskan snow crab and lobster so fresh out of their tanks. Come hungry. Cool atmosphere overlooking the Santa Monica beach. Good service even with the wait times.
Fresh fresh fresh seafood, best in the west this side of California. The view of the famous Santa Monica beach complete with palm trees is perfect even in the spontaneous rainy weather. Valet parking up front $15 with restaurant validation was too easy. The cocktails were good but just a little weak. We got the Ocean Avenue and Rosewood. The appetizers were the calamari and the muscles garbanzos, and they were delicious. The entrees were swordfish and the cioppino, and they were chef’s kiss incredible. The price was surprisingly not as expensive as I expected, but it did nothing to diminish the quality of the food. I cannot forget to mention that staff and service were excellent. A big thank you to Jas, our server. It was a great birthday dinner. I am still very full the next morning.
I was pretty excited to go to this restaurant on Sunday evening. We got a reservation within a couple of hours of our late dinner for 2 at 8:30. However when we arrived it took forever like 20 min to park in the valet. It was a zoo on ocean and that added to the mess. It also took forever at least 15-20 to be seated. The waiter said it wasn’t even that busy for a Sunday night. The room is warm and beautiful with lots of wood and nice comfortable seating. However, we then waited at least 15 min for someone to take our order. We did get bread before that which was amazing. It was warm soft sourdough with whipped butter. We both ordered blue goat cheese wedge salad mine chopped which had a wonderful flavor and the perfect amount of cheese, thick bacon and dressing. For main course I had the Alaskan halibut with the corn sauce. The texture and flavor was fantastic. My husband got the fish and chips. The beer batter was crispy and great but the fish was cut too thick for the dish and so the proportion of batter to fish was off. They also put paper beneath the fish I guess to absorb any vinegar ‍ and instead it tore into pieces and was hard to tell if you were eating paper with the fish. The fries were not so good. We also ordered cocktails and that took forever. We ordered at the same time we placed our food menu and got them midway through our meal. So overall there were food and bad about this place. Put it all together and it has to get a 3.
They have an amazing raw bar, we had ½ a dozen oysters, 3 from the pacific and 3 from the east coast. The wedge salad is huge, you can easily share it. I tried the sword fish and it was really good.
Decided to stop in Santa Monica on our way to the airport and just happened to walk past the Water Grill, so decided to stop in as my daughter loves seafood. Sat in a window table to enjoy the view and soak up the atmosphere. We were greeted by a very friendly server who helped us pick out our lunch choice. We decided on the New England Lobster Roll, traditional style, her personal favorite. What an exceptional choice. Cold lobster inside of a beautifully toasted roll with a side of fries. I highly recommend this to anyone who visits Santa Monica!
