As always, the clam chowder is outstanding! You can taste freshness. The handmade crab cakes are out of this world! Hubby had a cod sandwich. Very tasty with the paired fresh tarter sauce. Service was great.
Only one issue ..the fries weren't crispy and very bland. Usually they are good.

Great fresh seafood.  We generally eat at the bar and enjoy their bar tenders.  Very friendly and personable.

This seafood is flown in daily.  Always fresh.  Preparations tend to be rather boring but that let's the freshness shine through.  

The restaurant feels more like a cafeteria than a "nice place".  It is definitely not fancy.  But I think that also let's the freshness be the focus.

If you want good seafood in Des Moines, this is THE place.

I would like to see them install big screens with a live feed of the coasts, including sound.  It would lend credibility to the claim of Waterfront (at the highest elevation in the metro).

The Waterfront is one of my favorite restaurants in the Des Moines area.  My wife and I have been visiting this restaurant for more than 20 years and have consistently had great food and great service.  Many of the wait staff have worked here for years and have a lot of experience in customer service.  The clam chowder is fantastic and the daily specials always hold a surprise.   Call-ahead seating is available for parties of 5 or more.  This is a popular spot, so expect a wait during prime dinner times.

We just had a stellar experience, waitress very attentive and professional, great seafood food and service!  Well worth any of the entree prices-super quality of the food and size of portions. Must try Clam Chowder perfect! Highly recommend.

Always a great experience. The seafood is fresh, the service is friendly and knowledgeable, and the drinks and always delicious. I don't know what their mix is, but they have the best bloody Mary I've ever had. I highly recommend going on Saturday's when they have half off oysters on the half shell and half off peel and eat shrimp.
