The Weis Earth Science Museum is the Official Mineralogical Museum of Wisconsin.
The Weis isn’t your grandfather’s museum full of dusty old glass cases — although we’ve got some really old stuff here!
Imagine a museum where you can make an earthquake, walk through a mine tunnel, shoot off a quarry blast, touch a dinosaur bone, and make it rain!
That’s the Weis!
And everyone — from the advanced collector to the youngster who just started picking up rocks — will be amazed at the marvelous minerals and fabulous fossils on display, too.
While you’re having lots of hands-on, interactive fun, you’ll discover that there were once volcanoes, mountains and tropical reefs right here in Wisconsin. In fact, you’ll learn that every rock tells a story, and you can read them yourself!
The mission of the Weis Earth Science Museum is to preserve and promote the geology of Wisconsin, and to underscore the importance of the earth sciences to society. It fulfills this purpose through education, research, and the through the collection, conservation, and display of minerals, rocks, fossils, and historical objects depicting the physical and historical geology of Wisconsin and its mining heritage.
