Felt compelled to write since the reviews on here are a bit mixed, which truly shocks me. Wheatleigh is exquisite. We were immediately greeted by name upon arrival, escorted promptly to our suite, and given a brief and excellent tour of the property. The suite was beautiful and the views from the balcony breathtaking. The preserved architecture of this estate makes it feel special and unique. Staff were superb, remembering it was our anniversary, making sure we were well taken care of without being intrusive whatsoever. The food was amazing! We indulged in their new brunch menu and loved it. The chef personally came out to explain his new dishes and be sure we were enjoying. What a gem of a property, matched by equally lovely food and staff. We will be back soon.
We had a gift certificate for an upcoming stay when the hotel unexpectedly decided to close with an email only stating that our reservation was canceled. We have been trying for months to get a hold of someone but we have not received a call back or reply to any of our emails. Sad to see what was such a special place end things like this.
Had us drive 3+ hour for a tour of the venue to potentially have our wedding there when they fully knew that the facility was closing down. They didn’t divulge any of that to us and completely wasted our time. Led us completely astray when they could have been transparent and honest and saved us a weekend of traveling. Further, the woman we were supposed to meet with didnt even show up and the person we met with didnt know about wedding details and was completely off base with prior conversations we had. I would suggest looking else where as this place is clearly is between management companies and transitioning to other things.
Beautiful spot and good food. We almost never leave reviews but Customer Service was atrocious sadly. We stayed at the hotel December 2nd after purchasing dinner and overnight stay at a charity auction with a premium for a great cause. Hotel insisted on emailing us our invoice when we checked out because it was complimentary except for the beverages at dinner. Which they never did. We checked and our credit card was charged separately for the beverages at dinner, but also again for entire “complimentary” dinner including the amount separately billed again. Now several calls and emails with no answer. This isn’t what I would expect from a luxury hotel. It is a shame as venue is beautiful but we are local and can assure you that we and none our friends in Lenox or larger Berkshires community will ever direct guests there. Customer service is important in this business, that is much bigger than the billing mistake.
My Husband and I have been coming to Wheatleigh for over 15 years and today we had the great pleasure of having lunch and trying the cuisine from the new chef RJ Cooper, it was fabulous, seriously. The chef took it upon himself to come out and help serve us and he was so much fun to talk to, it was all very refreshing. As he said to us 'I'm here to make you happy', and he wasnt kidding, I was very impressed. Thank you to the Wheatleigh Team, we now look forward to coming back in the Spring to continue to see how the experience evolves. Best, Michael & Stephen
Lovely hotel with great service and staff. The BIG issue here is the food. It is advised to head into town for breakfast rather than having the complimentary one at the hotel. It is STRONGLY advised not to partake in the tasting menu at Sage & Sparrow. Beyond not being able [or remembering] to adhere to dietary restrictions, the previous night’s meal in town, which was a 5/10, was notably better than Sage & Sparrow. It is unfortunate as I couldn’t think of a more beautiful setting but I would have rather spent $1,000 at ten $100 meals elsewhere than at Sage & Sparrow.
Fantastic estate style hotel with an intimate setting; great place to escape the city for a relaxing and scenic weekend in the Berkshires Extremely accommodating and friendly staff made this an incredible experience. The grounds are kept in top shape, the food is to die for, and the accommodations are everything you'd expect from one of the world's best hotels. THEY HAVE A NEW CHEF AT THE PROPERTY. Very delicious no details spared. Top notch. Gourmet vibes / yet substantial serving.
We went for lunch and had a great experience. Fantastic food and service. The staff was overly pleasant and kind. The hotel looked fantastic and will be on our shortlist of places to stay when visiting this area again.Service: 5/5
The service was jarring and not what one would expect for a hotel with such high accolades. We were greeted by two overly eager front door staff who then walked us out to the back for drinks on the lawn. We were given a menu then forgotten about entirely. After some time and after being bitten by many bugs in the grass, we moved to the terrace hoping staff would remember we were out there. That did not happen. So finally we moved back inside to the lobby and even then several staff walked by us without so much as a word. We had arrived 45-60 min early for a drink before our dinner reservation and yet we did not get our drinks until about 10 minutes prior to our scheduled seating time-- which meant we waited at a minimum, over half an hour for service. Mind you it was not busy in the least. We saw two other parties a party of four, a party of two in that time. The staff member who brought our drinks was also poorly trained. A bit of wine was poured into my companions glass and told us she would fetch more and be right back. Alas, that was not to be. Perhaps we were served by a ghost. As for dinner, we had requested the tasting menu and were told it was not possible. That is fine but when making the reservation I assumed we would be in the Portico and it was not made clear. Once seated in the "Bistro" the waitstaff was curt, unfriendly, and unhelpful. I would have been annoyed by the service if we had paid $100 total, let alone the $400 we did between the two of us. Moreover, the appetizers were two dimensional in both flavor and texture and we genuinely wondered if they had been microwaved. To their credit the grilled Buffalo ribeye was perfectly cooked. We also tried the truffled pasta admittedly hard to mess that one up though. Is it that difficult to find staff in the Berkshires that are even slightly trained or educated in hospitality and culinary arts? A highly disappointing and bizarre evening on the whole. We will never return. Save your money for elsewhere.
The 2 restaurants notwithstanding, we had a lovely few days. Erica is the perfect hostess who greets you by name at the front door. Even before your arrival, Erica helps get your room and amenities organized via phone. She made our stay extra special. Regarding the restaurants, honestly, and I hate to say this, go to Zinc in the town of Lenox
