The Whistler House Museum is easily one of the best art museums I've been to. It has a fantastic mix of international and local artists including Phelps, Gorky, and a massive collection of Whistler's sketches. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and a general joy to be around. It's within a stone's throw of a ton of great restaurants and more museums, and I would recommend planning a good chunk of your day around going - it's much bigger than you'd think. All in all, a fantastic experience that I plan on revisiting in the near future
The Whistler House is a true hidden gem- everyone staffing the house is so friendly, and a true wealth of information which they are more than happy to share even if you elect for a self-guided tour. The house itself is impressive enough to be worth the visit alone, but the experience is taken over the top by the impressively diverse range of art in such a compressed space. Beautifully curated, and only further emphasized by the warm welcome you’re met with instantly upon walking through the door, the Whistler House is a true must-visit for artists, art enthusiasts, and history buffs alike.
Whistler known for the famous picture of his mom lived here. Not far from national park visitors center and other attractions. Wander around before and after your visit here.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
James Whistler was born in 1834 in this interesting house in Lowell. The displayed art is enjoyable, although missing some major Whistler pieces. You can walk to the Whistler House Museum from the Commuter Rail Lowell Station. In summer, or warm spring or fall day, you can rest on a bench in the lovely Whistler Park.
I had a great time at The Whistler House, everyone there was so kind and helpful. Lots of interesting art, and has a gallery out back that often has newer works of art. Perfect for people who have a love for art and history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$11–15
The house and art is nice, and the docents were super friendly. BUT for a $15 entry fee to find out the mostly have local 2nd tier artist a no work by Whistler except few etchings was very disappointing and a little misleading we thought.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
The Whistler House is a hidden historic gem! Friendly staff, knowledgable docents, and a stunning collection of art featuring Whistler, Sargent, Gorky, and other New England artists of the 19th and 20th centuries.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Yup. Nice place to kill an hour or so. Can't say much about it, but it was interesting. No pamphlets, no tour, and assistance. You just look and walk around all by myself. I should have done some research before hand but forgot I had the tickets and went last minute. If you have a library membership, you can acquire a free pass for the day. I would call and see if they still provide passes. Was not impressed and unfortunately I love museums. Ya, it's not the Breakers or anything, place did seem small because you allowed to only see a little bit of the building. The man I spoke to for a bit was nice. I am not sure how much the tickets are, but I would not pay over $10.00 or so. If your a fan, please pay what you think it's worth, but this is a place you could use a pass at only. I know, it's not Boston, it's the local history. Wish there was more to see. They saved crumbs. The only thing I enjoyed was a few paintings. I can still picture it in my mind. I got nothing else. Oh well.
Whistler's birthplace, mainly an art gallery. Beautifully maintained inside and out. Nice location to hold an event. Our docent was very knowledgeable of art history of their holdings. I would have liked to hear more about the building's history.
Great set of museums, you likely won't spend more than 2 hours in any of them. I wouldn't pay the ad.mission price for just one of the museum's but it's not bad if you see more than one in a full day. Plenty of places to picnic too. A lot of interactive stuff that actually works! I would reccomend.
