Local and convenient. Prices are high and you can't use coupons on sale items. I prefer Lowes, I can get 10 % discount for my military service! They are well stocked for a small store!

This is a small footprint hardware store that always manages to have what I'm looking for ...or needing (but just didn't know before walking in.) Whether corporate keeps track of what inventory is best at the various Ace locations, or whether the local manager knows these things, it is well done and impressive. The customer service aspect is more behind the times for my taste, but perhaps that, too, is tailored to the community; this is after all Upstate SC: The cashiers are female; all other employees are male. The oldest (male) floor assistant is the most knowledgeable; he knew why I wanted diatomaceous earth (for breaking up hard packed clay soil.) It just never occurred to me that it was packaged as Bedbug Killer. The younger older men are nice and friendly but don't know much about homesteading or non-conventional gardening practices; the female cashiers, however, often do. The men also insist they have no way of cutting galvanized pipe at an angle. (I use galvanized pipe to hold bluebird feeders; cutting the end at a diagonal creates a sharp pointed end that works like a tooth to bite into the hard packed clay.) So, I cut the pipe myself at home, with a hack saw. Maybe one day I will show them how it's done.

Where do I start? It's always a terrible experience here. Uninterested cashiers playing around on their phones. Unknowledgeable sales associates that think they know everything. Always out of stock on the fitting that I need. It's easier just to go to one of the big box stores and save the frustration.
