We had a great time at Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. I was very skeptical because of the reviews I saw. I am a seasoned snowboarder who used to work at a resort in California, but my boyfriend was brand new to snow sports and needed a ski lesson. I saw tons of reviews saying their teachers were very skilled, patient, and attentive and the resort was cheaper than others nearby so we gave it a shot and we didn't regret it. I do wish there had been more lifts open, but as there hadn't been any real snow yet, I can understand why, so really I have no complaints. The staff is really nice and sincere, the mountain conditions are average (not a complaint), and their food is decent. Give it a shot.

I've been skiing most of my life but this is the furthest south I've been. I've never been anywhere where they keep the snow machines on during the day while people are using the slopes. They have the machines arranged so that it is impossible to make it down the mountain without being blasted by ice shards. If you are fortunate enough to be wearing goggles, they will instantly freeze over making it impossible to see where you are going. If you are goggle-less be prepared to be blinded by hundreds of ice crystals being shot at high speeds directly at head height of the average skier. There is no escape so most people just crash into trees, poles, each other etc. imagine a Sea World Antarctica splash zone. Despite just getting 6+ inches of natural snow yesterday, the conditions were very icy on this tiny little mountain. Prices are high considering the size of the mountain and the very basic nature of the trails.

Snow is decent. The folks who work there are super nice and its not crowded. Best slope around Asheville.

We had a wonderful day of snow boarding. Staff was a little slow is helping get our rentals, but overall we had a fantastic day and loved being about to ski when it's 60° outside

I visited on the "perfect" day, after 6" of snow fall, but they had the snow blowers running which really sucked. Only one of their two chair lifts was running, and only 50% of their slopes were open. I expected better, but this was most likely due to the conditions, so I cant blame them. That said, I still believe it wouldnt have been much better otherwise. The mountain is very small and the slope layout felt mismanaged. They have blue runs that feed directly into green unload landings, which is dangerous and creates a severe bottle neck. The slopes are designed for advanced riders (even the green runs), so beginners beware! In my opinion Cataloochee is much better, and considering its the same distance away from me as Wolf, it will getting all of my future business.
