Woodchute mountain is just outside Prescott on the way to Jerome. We were very excited to do this trip before the weather got too chilly. From the trailhead we walked up a hill and around the side of a mountain overlooking the valley between Prescott and Jerome. The beautiful mix of high desert, pines, and fall colors made for a fantastic view. After about 3.5 miles we made it to the plateau on Woodchute mountain. We hiked to the far north side of the mountain to have lunch overlooking Jerome, Verde Valley, cottonwood, and we could even see the Mogollon rim in the distance. To camp we backtracked a mile and went uphill into the pines. For a night under the stars look for camping on the north side of Woodchute mountain where there is less trees. The trail was easy, we hiked in hiking sandals the whole way.
