My wife and I moved here about a year ago. We have been thoroughly pleased with WP. As I sit here and look out the windows at a snow storm, and feel warm and cared for, I know we chose the right place for our retirement care. The other residents are friendly and warm...the staff is competent and caring. And we need never worry that we will become a burden to our children as we age. But mostly - It's fun!

My husband and I moved here 5 years ago, and each morning and evening we are reminded of how lucky we are, as we watch sunsets and sunrises over the Shawangunk mountains. It is a remarkable feeling to feel so supported and cared for, while leading quite an independent life. And it's wonderful to know our children no longer have to worry about our future. Nor do we.

The food was terrible and our mom lived there a year. I attended a meeting for residents about improving the food situation and they were shot down by a woman named Ronnie who ran the meeting at every suggestion or request. . I just started taking notes and when I tried to speak with Michelle who I was told was the one who could help. Michelle didn't return my calls after 4 times. The residents were afraid to complain. This concerns me. I had many residents tell me they were fearful of retaliation. We took our mother out and moved her to another facility. Some of the staff were great but they usually didn't stay. The facility itself is pretty but unless you are living nearby and can be an advocate I'd reconsider. Mom is now at Valley Vista much happier although she misses the friends she made. They weren't allowed to sit with their friends at mealtime. Told by Ronnie to switch tables every meal. This lady Ronnie is bad news. No one who actually prepared food attended the meeting about the food situation. Oddly staff is told they can't eat there and orders in everyday. After speaking to Michelle the CEO today the staff can take meals there if they have it taken out of their check. Well who in their right mind would pay for that food? I still feel badly for the four women who remain that expressed fear of abuse if they complained and they would never tell me what the actual abuse was. Some of them would beg me to bring them something decent to eat. Woodland Pond needs to either expand the dining room where the kitchen is or build a kitchen on the Assisted Living side. Transport of food is a problem. There isn't enough room on the Independent Living side for residents to eat their and mom says they don't feel welcomed there at all. I also witnessed someone's mother cry and they threatened to put her in the nursing home side if she didn't stop crying. They called the police on the woman. 💔 I felt it was to create a paper trail that the woman was mentally ill. Save yourself a lot of money and don't send your parent there. My friends dad went there just for rehab and wanted out. We are New Paltz locals. I could back up what I've said with other people who were disatified but in the end the family and residents loose. This is supposed to be non profit but rates go up continuously. We did not move my mom because we could not afford Woodland Pond but mom was obviously afraid to tell them it was because of the food. She liked many people on the staff and the nursing staff was good. At one point our mother fell and the put her in the Pines for rehab instead of the facility we were already paying for a Woodland Pond. We were paying for two facilities at once and they had people who were not residents at Woodland Pond occupying the rehabilitation beds at Woodland Pond. I had to go back and forth bringing mom's things to her. Ann Minadeo Hiltner

Ray and I have had a cottage here since 2011. We can't say enough about the interesting, productive residents, the caring, innovative staff, the extensive range of activities, the all inclusive menu, the physical setting in Mill Brook Preserve and the picture postcard view of Skytop and the Shawangunk Mountains! We are fortunate to have discovered this CCRC.

I've worked with some nice people here and some not so nice people. The rehab team we have here is full of some great people who work hard with the family members who come through. The nursing staff works around the clock to ensure the safety and happiness everyone deserves. I'd recommend working here and would recommend family members looking for rehab.
