Story

Our Philosophy

Give your child a taste of being a real gymnast! The Work it Out Gymnastics Program was designed and customized by Program Director, Owner and long time competitive gymnast, Noel Descalzi. This unique program will teach your child the basic fundamentals of gymnastics and more. Although this is not a competitive program, every class is run with a firm philosophy on instructing each student as if they were a part of a competitive team. We believe that an emphasis on discipline, strong work ethic, proper form and technique can bring out each child’s natural ability. From your child’s very first class we promise to instill team values, self-esteem and motivation.

Led by hand-selected, seasoned gymnasts the program focuses on learning and improving tumbling skills, proper gymnastic vocabulary and most importantly, progression. Our group levels are structured by ability, age and behavior. As our students improve we will gradually move them up in class level. We demonstrate best practices for safe stretching and encourage strength building. You will be amazed at your child’s improved coordination, muscle memory, and body awareness.

All of our coaching staff is trained on proper spotting techniques and WiO’s teaching methods. Our coaches are encouraged to create bonds with your children, lead by example and be positive role models for our young gymnasts. All are safety certified and recognized by the USAG organization.

Our classes are perfect for children brand new to gymnastics and kids interested in pursuing the sport more seriously. We have multiple skill levels, with options for your child to try new challenges along the way. Not sure you’re ready for a full season? We have Open Gymnastics available too!

I have been a member at Work it Out since the very beginning. Work it Out is more than just a gym, it is a community of great members and instructors that motivate and excite each other to SWEAT. Work it Out has a little bit of everything which is the main thing that attracted me originally: spin, pilates, yoga, zumba, high intensity, and even there signature "blended classes" (1/2 bike 1/2 foor portion), etc... So thank you WiO for not only getting me in the best shape but for making me love to work out and feel good about myself :D

I absolutely love this studio! I'm addicted to their spinning and sweata weatha classes as well as the blended classes they offer at the River location! It's an amazing environment - every instructor I've had have been absolutely nothing but 120% inspirational. I've been a member at another gym in Hoboken and I can tell you that not every instructor there is even half as great as at WIO. WIO is extremely welcoming to new members and will show you and correct you when you're not sure how to do a particular move. I wish I only discovered this place sooner before I signed up for another gym! They offer an incredible variety of classes for everyone to try anything they normally wouldn't do. I'm a kick boxer and cross fit junkie so I would never dream of trying barre or yoga or Zumba until I started going to WIO and now I can say I've tried them all and enjoyed myself even though I looked like a fool a few times. Keep up the great work!

Last week I went to a class at a gym in Hoboken called "Work It Out" (or WIO). The name of the class was "Next Stop Skinny". The description of the class is this: *Next Stop Skinny™ All aboard! Next stop Skinny U, where you learn how amazing it feels to tone every inch of your body. No muscle is left behind in this 55-minute total body circuit class where each station works a different spot and blasts of cardio keep you chugging. Be prepared to lose some baggage.* This was by far the hardest workout class I've ever taken. Including personal training. I was the fattest and oldest girl in the class. (I'm not super skinny, but I wouldn't normally describe myself as fat. And I'm not straight out of college, but I'm not old either. But in this class I was both fat and old). Because of my herniated disc and arthritis in my lower back I wasn't even able to do all of the exercises, so for some of the cardio I just did jumping jacks while everyone else did other back-intensive things. And I'm not the kind of person to just not do something in a class. I'll try it and push myself until I absolutely can't. But there were several things that my body would just not allow me to do. The class had zero breaks...not a moment at all to catch your breath. And today I hurt. Everywhere. It's true when they say "no muscle is left behind". No false advertising there. My body is wiped. But in a good way. It was a totally tortuous 50 minutes. But is it crazy that I sort of want to go back? Maybe I should try one of their other cleverly named classes like Riding High, CandyBarre, Tight End, Sweata Weatha, or Hottie Pilates. That was 3.5 days ago. I'm still sore.
