About

The Ximenez-Fatio House Museum is one of St. Augustine's most authentic historic properties.

Story

The Ximinez-Fatio House was built about 1798 by Andres Ximenez, a Spanish storekeeper and citizen of St. Augustine. The house is built of native coquina and reflects both Spanish and English design principles. The separate kitchen, with its brick baking oven, is the only original from this period remaining in St Augustine. Following the death of Andres Ximenez, the building was first purchased by Mrs Margaret Cook and later by Mrs. Sarah Anderson, who both operated it as a boarding house during the turbulent Seminole Wars. Miss Louisa Fatio bought the property in 1855. Recent architectural evidence indicates a major remodeling of the house during her first years of ownership. The result was a spacious two-story boarding house, one of the most prestigious in the city. The house has been restored to depict a fashionable early 19th century inn. The site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973

Lovely home located on the oldest street, decorated as it was during its days as a boarding house. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, the tour is worth doing if you love history! Included with your tour price, are four postcards featuring some of the rooms you visit, which makes a nice free souvenir. This place has been owned and operated by women for over 200 years (and ongoing to present).

My boyfriend and I went on this tour and we both had an amazing time. Our tour guide was very informative and answered all my questions about the house and items within it. It's an incredible blast into the past, so if you like history and/or antiques then you have to check out this place! If we had more time I would have taken a second tour. Word to the wise--- It can be rather hot (though they give you a paper fan) so definitely dress for the hot and humid weather!

This is a great tour. I came here as a child and I could repeat many parts back of the tour because I found it so interesting. I have returned a couple times as an adult as well. Well worth seeing!
