Yeiser Art Center: Bringing National Art to the Region and Regional Art to the Nations.

Story

The Yeiser Art Center, a non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status, was established 1957 as the Paducah Art Guild for the “purpose of promoting the appreciation of the visual arts and for their creation.” It started as a small volunteer organization. Today the Yeiser Art Center has a permanent exhibition space, a permanent collection, and a supporting membership. The Center strives to carry out its original mission and to further continue the development and appreciation of the visual arts by operating as a non-profit visual arts organization that serves adults and children of all ages throughout the region.

I was there on a Monday when everything in Paducah was closed. I saw a blown glass ball in the window which I wanted to purchase for my sister.  It meant a lot to me as I wanted to do something special for her as she is going through a difficult time. I called the store on Tuesday and asked about having it shipped. The young man told me he would call me back. After two days I called back and inquired about the ball.  The same young man answered the phone and told me unfortunately because it is glass, they couldn’t  ship it.  I simply said thank you and hung up, perplexed because why does a business turn away a customer (who was very willing to pay whatever they asked for shipping) and how on earth does glass get anywhere unless it is shipped?  Disappointing.

I love the YAC. My two year old loves the YAC. My peers love the YAC. It's not just a place to go to see great changing, local art. It is truly a CENTER and a starting point for the arts in our area. Whether they are featuring privately owned pieces, local artist handiwork, or featuring visiting talent aficionados will find work that gives them an emotionally provoking experience. 
For beginners to the world of art in general, they offer ample educational opportunities and local events to help encourage and inspire love for all sorts of mediums and help newcomers discover their own inner talent. 
Whether you're visiting Paducah for its rich art culture or for one of its other attractions or you're a local citizen who is looking to gain a greater depth of awareness of what your community offers - the YAC is MUST!! Visit it. Learn about it. Get involved in it.
