Since Zahmats first opened its doors in Duxbury's Snug Harbor back in the Fall of '77, the salon has been a place for patrons to get the cut, color and style that suits them best in a friendly, comfortable environment. For over 35 years, Zahmats has seen many changes in hair fashion and have always managed to stay on the cutting edge (pun intended!)
Before Bob and wife, Joanne Puopolo created Zahmat's, Bob was the barber to the Big Bad Bruins of the Stanley Cup years of the early '70s. Duxbury has been the only home to Zahmats, in three different locations. First at Snug Harbor, then on St. George Street, and finally at their current location behind the Rockland Trust Bank on Bay Road.
Currently the salon in addition to Bob, features Liz McEachern and Taylor McGarigal. Liz, formerly of Robert Lyons Creative Hair salon in Hingham, offers cuts, colors, foiling and Keratin straightening treatment and Taylor performs cuts and colors.
For you trivia lovers, the name Zahmats, which translates to "trouble" was the name of the family's pet Persian cat.
