When Addison/Ripley Fine Art was established in 1981 in a large, historic carriage house at 9 Hillyer Court, behind the Phillips Collection, partners Sylvia Ripley and Christopher Addison already had an ambitious agenda for the gallery. Now, as one of Washington, D.C. ‘s foremost contemporary galleries housed in premium space in Upper Georgetown at Book Hill, the gallery continues to thrive and to present challenging and familiar art works in expansive exhibits throughout the year.
We feature changing exhibitions of work by leading area and internationally recognized artists as well as work by younger, emerging artists. Work in all media is represented in the gallery and styles range from traditional landscape to overall abstraction. The gallery displays work in large scale: painting, photography, drawing and sculpture, and more modest scale in those same mediums. The gallery frequently arranges exhibits in other spaces for our clients and artist.
Among the services available through the gallery for private clients, other art consultants, interior decorators and corporate entities are art acquisition and sale for private and corporate clients and consultations for placement, lighting, framing and value. We buy and sell at auction on behalf of clients and offer professional advice in this area for our clients. In addition, we work extensively with colleagues throughout the United States and the world, extending our reach and ability to offer our clients the finest work available anywhere.
Since 1986, the gallery has been an active member of the Art dealers Association of Greater Washington.
