We wondered in to this restaurant by chance because we arrived late in to town and were very desperate for a meal…they were about to close shop but, stayed open for us to serve us a meal and some very tasty drinks. We got to know the employees, they cooked the meal in front of us, we listened to music…it was the best first restaurant experience. Aside from probably the best service I have ever had the food was great and the fondue a treat.
Dining at The Alpinist and the Goat is truly a comedy of errors. Anything that could have gone wrong did. We were sitting in a small room of 4 total tables. The staff mistakenly brought the wrong food to each of the tables every single time a new dish came out. It became a joke between the tables - “we didn’t order this, did you?” This went on for the entire two hours we had the pleasure of dining there. When ordering a glass of wine, it took upwards of 45 minutes and multiple reminders to receive the glass, although it was delivered to the wrong table again. We asked the staff for water 4 times before they remembered to bring it. Water seemed to confuse the staff. We had an off-the-menu surprise from the kitchen! A lovely hair in the fondue which resembled what you might pull out of a clogged sink. Very appetizing. The long haired gentleman who appeared to manage the restaurant was flying high tonight! He was physically present, but one cannot say the same of his mind. It was an embarrassing display of poor management from beginning to end.
Total scam. Table was to small to accommodate my wife and I. We opted to leave without ordering and were assured our credit card deposit would be returned. Not true. Owners argued with the bank. We were charged $125 and got nothing. Owners seem a bit sketchy. Avoid.
We booked this restaurant for dinner hoping for nice fondue and raclette. We arrived and the tv and music were so loud, so we sat in the other room. We wanted raclette which is normally served with raclette cheese and on the menu is says Gruyère. Our waiter didn’t seem to understand our questions about the dishes and he then returned to table to say they had run out of Gruyère and that they would make the raclette with emmental cheese, which is an absolute no go. We also tried to order two different bottles of wine, to which the waiter looked confused and kept saying we don’t have that, so we cancelled our food and left.
We booked a table at 4.45 for Christmas Eve, more than a month in advance to make sure we had somewhere to eatas it can be difficult to find somewhere on that night. We arrive with the kids, 4yrs and 9 months, and despite seeing the two very young children, she asks us if we could take the two tables separated at a weird angle. I’m not sure how she thought we would eat fondue on two separate tables…with a toddler and a baby but we declined. To help, I said we are happy to wait for something to open up and she said, not joking “that might not be possible we are fully booked”…. Yes, also by us, we booked! Realizing that wasn’t the best thing to say she took our number and said they would call us, so we wandered in the sub freezing temperatures and ended up at a pub restaurant down the road where we ended up having a nice meal Floradora saloon was excellent. I get it, mistakes happen, but why give away tables when you know people are coming in soon after opening, and why be so unapologetic. Oh and she did call, over an hour later when we already had our entrees.
Fondue was ok and in a very very tight spot. The filet that we ordered with was pretty good. Would be a better experience if not so crammed in. The servers were great.Food: 4/5
This was one of my favorite dining experiences ever. Chef Jay's interactivity at the chef's counter was charming. The food was amazing. Katrina's service game was on point, attentive without being obtrusive, remembering our drinks on a very busy festival weekend. The house-infused spirits are out of this world - seriously, stop by for a cocktail. Dietary restrictions: They accommodated our gluten free requests no problem. And the gluten free bread was amazing.
Grüezi! Our family is Swiss and we used to live in Switzerland, so we really miss the cuisine and had to come here. We had such a lovely experience here! We were able to get a table by ourselves in the back room. We tried the Basque Fondue which we will definitely have to come back and have again. Our waitress was very pleasant and made sure we were enjoying everything. I read some of the other reviews and now that I have tried it myself, I do feel that some people and one in particular are being a little harsh. I hope this review will at least encourage you to take all these reviews even mine with a grain of salt and just try it yourself.
We went for brunch today and they couldn’t cook eggs over medium and knew they were wrong but brought to our table anyway. I ordered the Spanish omelet and it was all meat and cheese and virtually no egg. They were out of chorizo and served with Italian sausage. The waitress kept apologizing but nothing was done to correct the errors. Skip the brunch and go somewhere else.
The fondue was delicious, though for $50 photographed one would hope for at least a full apple. The brussel sprouts were divinely decadent; the dessert was shockingly sad. There’s a reason it’s all you can eat: you will not eat it.
