ANNIE*S offers an amazing selection of American-made handcrafted jewelry, pottery, glass, jewelry boxes, mirrors, clocks, Judaica and more.
When we opened the original Annie's in 1992, we hung a picture of our daughter, Annie, on the wall behind the counter. She was two years old. We hung Leah's picture right next to Annie's a month later. She was a week old. Now, they're 27 and 25 and you can see them in person when they help us out. During the time that the girls were growing up, we've collaborated with many artists. We've carried the work of Holly Yashi and Desert Heart since our first day. Mike Mikutowski and Sarena Mann since 1998. We have nationally-known artists such as Gary Rosenthal and Bill Campbell and lesser known, but equally talented crafts people like Terry Zigmund and Jay Palefsky. I know, you're thinking this is the "who we are" section. But it's hard to talk about who we are without mentioning the great artists we work with. We envy their skill, appreciate their sense of design, and respect their dedication to handcraft. We, like many of our customers, are truly amazed at what they create year after year. But the best part for us is the friendships we have with many of the artists. In fact, some of them seem more like family than business associates.
And to be honest, it would be unfair not to recognize that some of our customers seem like family, too. We've known some, like Elena and Ralph, since our early days in Rockport. We've enjoyed the company of Edie and Dennis since coming to Newburyport in 1998. And each year we meet more people that make having our small business a real pleasure.
Besides all the great folks we buy from and sell to, it really makes us feel good to know that some large jewelry box purchased from us in 2002 is used everyday and will eventually be handed down to someone in the family. We enjoy seeing a woman come into the shop wearing a necklace she got here and we love to hear that every time she wears it, she gets compliments. We smile when we hear that the wedding gift they purchased a month ago was a big hit. I guess you could say we really love what we do.
So thanks to you, the artists and customers, who've made this life of ours possible for the last 25 years.
Well, we'll stop talking and let you check out the page. . It doesn't have everything we have because there's too much and it changes too quickly. But it does give a good overview of what we offer. Let us know what you think. We'll keep adding new artists and crafts to the page as they come in, so please come back to visit.
Enjoy,
Ted and Kate Hochheiser
