DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE...was hesitant to call based on reviews but figured I'd give them a chance. The woman on the phone was extremely rude and off putting. Told her I was calling based on a referral from a satisfied customer but was a little taken back at her lack of professionalism. She proceeded to hang up on me mid conversation. I'll gladly take my business to the competition. Would rate zero if I could. The business owner should do a better job screening employees in the interview process. NOT A GOOD LOOK

I have rented from Avis at the Rome, NY location on several occasions when Scott was running the business. Always well taken care of by him. After seeing all the bad reviews, I was reluctant to rent here again. I choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and glad that I did. We rented a full sized car online with pre-pay. The Sonata was clean and got great gas milage on our trip. At pick up and drop off Tari Nolan the Location Manager was nothing but friendly and efficient. We are even getting a reimbursement of $9.00 because we were overcharged on prepay which she told us with a smile. Yes we will rent here again. Thank you Tari.

I was a loyal renter from this location for YEARS. As other reviewers have noted, the service when Scott was running the place was beyond exceptional, five-star all the way. BUT... the decline in service since his departure is truly unbelievable. I've been over-charged on multiple occasions, given cars in terrible condition (including a 30-minute delay on my "AVIS Preferred" pickup in March because they insisted on trying to jumpstart a car with a battery that was dead as a doornail, which wasn't discovered until I was in it), and most disturbing is how the woman now in charge treats people. Her attitude is rude and dismissive for even the simplest questions and heaven forbid there's a problem (which, due to their incompetence is now guaranteed!) - no matter how patient and calm you try to be, she is downright offensive and insulting. I now have to add extra time to my trip in order to pickup at ANY other location - will NEVER rent here again as long as current management is in place.

My first time renting a vehicle from them and will NEVER do that again! Got into the car which clearly was smoked in, and the vehicle was absolutely disgusting inside! Definitely need to be taking care of their vehicles better.

Since Scott left this rental location is horrible. I work for a company that only rents from AVIS, and regularly rents from this location for business trips to adjoining states. I am now considering driving to the Syracuse location, from Rome, just to avoid dealing with the people that are working there now. The woman working has no customer service sense. She is disrespectful to customers and unable to communicate, openly showing frustration and irritation while being asked simple questions. So much so that while asking about the size vehicle that I was renting, and why a Mitsubishi Lancer was considered a Standard car she threw up here arms and asked me what I wanted her to do about it. On another occasion, I told the same woman, while she explained to me the vehicle damage form (a form that every other location has either done away with or not required for preferred customers in a long time), that I knew what it was. She proceeded to slam a pen down on the counter, shove the paper at me, and say fine, sign it then! Today, I tried calling multiple times to get a receipt. After several rings I get a message that the customer cannot take incoming calls, no voicemail, just the message, a call drop, and a busy signal. Multiple co-workers have experienced the same issue with the staff and service. We are considering changing policy to allow for the use of other agencies in the local area to avoid this location. We all miss Scott.
