They made a simple pre op appointment very difficult. Scheduled me 3 days outside their “required scope.” Told me to leave mid appointment and come back. Blamed it on the surgeons requirement then later told me it’s their office requirement. Wanted to do a second EKG even though they did one three weeks earlier. I ended up going to urgent care. They checked my vitals reviewed my history, and signed the form. Easy breezy. I didn’t even get assigned a doctor. Only a nurse practitioner who costs the same as a doctor. Luckily I never get sick. Perhaps urgent care is the way to go!
Update: RATING CHANGED TO 5 STARS. My second visit to Penn Medical Bala Cynwyd was fantastic. Since my unpleasant 1st visit, PennBala really stepped up and connected me with a wonderful provider who was affable in her deportment and asked and answered lots of questions. She was great, and the office staff were great. Highly recommended! My first visit at Penn Medical Bala Cynwyd didn't go as well as I'd hoped it would. First the good: The front office staff, medical assistants and office manager were fantastic! Now the bad: I waited for approximately 30 minutes before the physician came into the examining room. Then she seemed to be annoyed that my previous medical providers didn't link directly with myPenn Medicine. She didn't take a second BP; nor, did she direct the staff to schedule a follow up appointment. The physician did do a brief physical exam and connected me with the office manager who helped me to access and print my lab records. I left feeling a little disappointed and unsure of what the next steps are. Hopefully the next? visit will be better.
So far so good! I’ve been to the Penn Medicine location in West Philly for 2+ years but since I moved away from near downtown area, I started going here recently. On the downside is that my original PCP didn’t have availability for over 1 - 2 months. A lot of Dr offices can be like that though, I think it depends on the Dr. I ended up going to see another doctorDr. Maura who I have seen twice now for sooner appointments within a week. I just called my insurance to make Dr. Maura McCarthy my PCP! She has been very attentive and supportive to my needs! I appreciate her being very easy to talk to, and actually seeming to care when she asks how I am doing! I recommend her as a doctor with well rounded knowledge on various aspects of medicine
As a UPenn employer who lives nearby, I feel shame about this affiliation. Made an appointment with a staff on phone months ago, weeks later I was notified that the appointment was cancelled due to 'a system error'. I'm fine with it just went to another affiliation, but this kind of suspicious statement is horrible, especially for a place involving people's health and life.
Hard as nails to make an appointment. They put you through 2 screeners with waiting for each as well as the same questions being asked. Only to find that you will have 4 months to wait for the appointment. Really? The people who answered the phone sounded very tired and distracted. Not engaged at all. Last time there, I waited at check out while 2 employees talked and joked it up with each other while I was waiting. Unprofessional. Disrespectful. Maybe they will chat themselves out of a job. It's possible. We as patients deserve better. Go to another place if you can. One doctor there is very good, but only present infrequently. They also need more African American physicians there. Join the 21st century. Please.
I have no idea what these negative reviews are about. I have been coming here for quite some time and never had issues. Perhaps the clinic is different. As far as primary care providers, I recently switched to Dr. Madsen. She is very intelligent, caring and thorough. If you are looking for a new Dr. I highly recommend her.
I went here last year. The doctor I saw was unprofessional. He has since left, but the bigger offense to me was improper coding of my appointment. They coded my appointment so that it ended up costing me over $500! I was told when I scheduled the appointment and after leaving the appointment that it would be covered by my insurance, which it definitely wasn’t! I spoke with a manager in their billing dept who told me that there is no such thing as an “annual physical” anymore and that it would only be considered one if I had already had an appointment with this PCP before. I felt completely scammed by them. An overall terrible experience. I’m at Jefferson now, and the quality of service just reinforces that what Penn did was unacceptable. Considering I am thankfully young and healthy, I can’t believe I paid so much for a doctor to sit in the room and do nothing for 20 min, just to send a nurse in to take bloodwork. Call your insurance and find an alternative provider!!
This is the WORST medical clinic I've ever encountered! Please do yourself a favor, don't go to this stupid place! They are very deceptive. Please also read other reviewers' reviews. I would not blame the health care providers. It's the GREEDY management to blame! I am not sick and have no medical conditions and just need an annual physical. I have the Obamacare insurance this year and went to this clinic for my annual physical exam/wellness visit, which is supposed to be free without any copay or deductions. But the front desk woman told me that since I am new to this clinic and they need to establish my medical history so I have to pay the $70 copay. It's a shame that this clinic is part of Penn Medicine. I believe this shameful clinic is damaging the reputation of Penn Medicine. I eventually left and cancelled this appointment although their account receivable woman and clinic manager tried to persuade me to stay with the precondition that I should not discuss any medical things.
A great place to go if you don't need medical attention. The people are super nice but you may never see or communicate with a doctor. Dr. Susan Moore references this in her viral video. Literally adding insult to injury. Same thing with the office in University City. Update: Kathy does what she can, but something is lacking.
I absolutely Love this office, I have never had a bad experience. I have been following Dr. Mruk for years. Dr. Mruk was unable for a last minute appointment so I was scheduled with Cathy Kazanjian, CRNP. Cathy's knowledge, compassion, empathy, and caring spirit meant everything to me. It is a great feeling to be able to trust a person with your life or inevitable life decisions. More recently my mother is experiencing some serious health conditions. I transferred her care from a physician that she followed for over 25 years to now seeing Cathy whom has done more for her care within months. May God continue to bless Cathy and her family as well the other staff at the office.
