Story

We at Baldwins German Autowerks value committed service and direct personal attention. With the most up to date trouble shooting diagnostics, and the veteran knowledge of our skilled techicians, the German Autowerks team is confident undertaking any questions, problems, and jobs.

We do all repairs from the "check engine light" to rebuilding a transmission. Work done by a dealership, can be done here as well. However, The difference between a dealer & Baldwins German Autowerks, is the honest interaction with the office and technicians, who are willing and very capable of assisting all german car owners.

I brought in my 2006, 530i, BMW, with a major engine cooling warning alarm. Brian’s performed a thurough diagnostic check that revealed several major issues that required me to consider replacing the vehicle rather than repairing. Brian agreed with me and told me to take my time with my decision. He assured me there was no pressure to move the car off his lot. I did end up replacing the car, but  being the 530i wasn’t drivable, nor suitable to use as a trade in without some repairs, I was stuck with what to do. Brian ended up making me a very fair offer and I sold him the car. 
This shop will now maintain my 2014 BMW X3 and someday assist with my new BMW 330e hybrid.
Couldn’t be happier.

Excellent 5-star service every time! I am a loyal long term customer. Petra is personable, knowledgeable and all-around awesome! She fits me in at times that are convenient for me. The mechanics keep my Audi A4 running smoothly. They always give me a loaner car to run errands while I wait. Everyone is consistently courteous and professional.

Kind, Honest, Good Value unlike the dealerships. If you have a German made vehicle this is the place to go for maintenance & repairs.

I love Baldwin's! Petra's a gem to work with and provides excellent customer service! There were times I had no ride back to my house and she would offer to drop me off! The team is friendly and honest. They would even email your receipts to you. If you are in Novato, or nearby Marin cities, Baldwin's the place to take your vehicle to get serviced.

I own several cars and enjoy the challenge of working on my cars and saving money.  Let’s face it, the internet has provided us with helpful info and videos from YouTube of people with average abilities fixing whatever.  After searching various websites and user groups, I was unable to find the answer to my dilemma.
I have a ‘97 BMW E39 540i that had an electronic problem, where the door locks would not lock or unlock properly, the windows and sunroof would work intermittently.  I also had a passenger door that had trouble opening from the inside. All research pointed to the body control Module GMIII for the electrical issues. I ran into a good friend that also was a mechanic and relayed the problem to him. He too said it was the Body Control Module. (I should mention that I had bought a used GMIII on EBay which did not work.) My friend recommended that I take the car to Baldwin’s German Autowerks in Novato, as he has had good reviews from other customers he had referred.
     I decided to drop by the shop and spoke with the receptionist Petra. After describing my car issues, Petra was knowledgeable and said “we have replaced body control Modules and can program them to your car” (which I needed).  Petra called over one of the technicians so we could discuss my problems with the car. The technician told me that they might have an extra module laying around the shop and would try it also. ( no charge). Our conversation was informative and they knew I was a “car enthusiast”.  Petra charged me an hour labor ($150) to diagnose the electrical problem after installing the Body Control Module with some things working. The technician found a faulty sunroof motor/Module that kept the windows from working.
     Baldwin’s allowed me to order my factory parts on line, which saved me money. They took my door panel off to inspect the passenger door locks and asked if I wanted to put the door panel back on myself to save $150. I’ve taken that panel off and on so many times, I can do it in my sleep. So I said “yes!”
Baldwin’s German Autoweks has earned my respect for their abilities, customer service and knowledge. I’ve discussed this problem with other shops and the dealer who said, “electronic problems are a can of worms”. If you love your car and want an automotive repair shop that will treat you with respect and take care of your car like you do, go to Baldwin’s German Autowerks aka the Hybrid Shop in Novato off of Hwy 101. Friendly staff (Petra) and super clean shop. 
Hint, Schedule to drop your car off in the evening the night before to avoid the morning commute traffic! You'll be glad you did.
