My boys (3 years bull dogs) have been with Bainfields since they were 4 weeks old. They LOVE the staff, and the staff love them. I have to very healthy, happy, pups.

It's with a heavy heart I write this review. I liked Banfield for a couple of years until recently. Also until recently, there is a doctor there who I believed truly cared about my dog. Care isn't enough; expertise is equally important. I share this story not to bash anyone, but to share my experience knowing, for many of us, our pets are our family members too. I have a Italian greyhound that means the universe to me. I originally joined Banfield with the urgency my dog's teeth desperately needed to be cleaned and it was the only affordable option. Banfield was excellent while my dog was in good health. Anyone can handle when circumstances are good. I went as far as to recommend Banfield to others. Last month, my dog's routine blood work showed high liver enzymes and an x-ray indicated gallstones. Banfield showed their true colors and lack of knowledge. Where to begin...One of the interventions was to change his diet to liver-healthy food. Other than being given prescriptions for the new food, I was not instructed on how to transition him. His food was changed multiple times (brands, wet versus dry) over 1-2 weeks. Come to find out later, there should've been a slow transition because an older dog's diet is sensitive and dog's are creatures of routine. My dog was prescribed Denamarin to help support his liver. The follow-up blood work indicated the Demamarin wasn't helping. Come to find out later, he couldn't absorb the Denamarin because it's supposed to be given on an empty stomach. No alternatives were provided. Because we were not informed of how to properly apply these interventions, my dog became very sick and was hospitalized overnight at the animal emergency hospital. We visited the Banfield doctor the next day. My dog is not in any pain. The doctor stated my options were surgery (on a 12.5 year old dog) to remove the gallbladder or consideration of euthanasia knowing a painful death would be eminent. The doctor and some of the staff were very aloof when I wanted to further discuss the options and ask questions. The longest the doctor talked to me in person was ten minutes and much to my surprise I felt like I was inconveniencing her. She basically told me these are the only two options and nothing else could be done. My husband and I decided to get a second opinion from a different vet. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. He willingly and kindly did what Banfield wouldn't. He met with us for an hour. He methodically read through all of my dog's records, thoroughly shared his evaluations and suggestions, discussed options with us and included alternate (natural) approaches. He explained how to introduce a new diet and how to supplement it with homemade dog food (my dog was resisting liver-friendly prescription dog food). He taught us how to properly administer Denamarin (an hour before eating on an empty stomach). He explained the gallstones were not indicative of rupturing/eminent death. In fact he said as long as my dog was not in pain and the gallstones were not obstructing the bile duct, they weren't of much importance. He advised us on using a natural therapy (milk thistle) to help our dog's liver repair itself. He's been very accessible and truly cares. Since changing doctors we did follow-up blood work to see how are dog was responding to the changes. I'm happy to report Banfield's prognosis of surgery or eminent death as the only outcomes was completely wrong. There are two numbers significant to liver health. The first number dropped in half. Though it's still higher than the normal range, in 1.5 weeks it's half of what it was! This is indicative of my dog's liver regenerating itself (which a liver can do). The second number is 1/3 of what it was. My 8 pound dog gained an entire pound because he's eating. He's back to behaving like the spirited, happy dog he was before Banfield's diagnosis. I've since attempted to cancel my Banfield wellness plan and that's a whole other nightmare in itself. Be sure to research.

I would only ever use this place for the puppy plan. Nothing else! I have three dogs ages 1,4,and 7. They are misinformed about their plans. I asked three times about my plans not renewing after the first year, and they reassured they would not. I called multiple times before the plans renewal dates to check and each time they said they would not. Well they all did. After the I called and asked why they renewed they said they were unsure because it shouldn't have. They gave the corporate number still dealing with this because they said I had to inform them I that I did not want my plans to renew. So this has been very frustrating. Also their services are priced very high so that their plans look like better options. For puppy yes it is a good deal because they need their boosters. Also one vet who saw my dogs said she could perform a small surgery to fix one of my dog's eyes to minimize his irritation so we scheduled this appointment. Dropped him off, and then a few hours later I get a call that he is already to go. I asked about his eye and they told me the vet that could do it was not in that day. I asked,"then what did you do?" "they said they did his physical." Which was not the purpose of his visit. They said I would have to reschedule him for when that vet would be there and I said "I thought that's what we did." I opted not to do the surgery because I did not want him put under again. Poor communication of their plans and poor communication between their staff. Also after every visit even just physicals all three of my dogs have gotten sick. Vomiting and diarrhea. This has happened one time at another vet and it was due to getting vaccinations. My older two did not receive their shots at Banfield and still got sick the two times they went. Lastly, took my dog in as a walk-in and waited almost two hours and still was not seen. I had the pleasure of speaking with another client and her dog who also had a bad reaction from something they did so she had to bring him back. They offered their emergency hospital services; however, this is not covered under the plan and is not affiliated with Banfield.

Banfield in Tallahassee is a great vet's office. The staff are always kind and helpful, and the hours are so convenient. Both of our rescue dogs are on the wellness plans, and I've been happy with those as well. We adopted both dogs as unaltered puppies with no shots (at different times), so we had to do to the full gamut of neutering and vaccinations for both. At other vets in the area, it would have cost upwards of $300 for just the consultation visit and first round of shots. Overall, the plans may not save you a ton of money over the life of your dog, but they certainly help make responsible pet ownership easier and more affordable. For those who say the staff are pushy, I agree a bit, and it's the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I think the first couple times I took my newly-adopted 6 week old lab puppy in for various silly puppy things, I may have been a little too overly cautious and purchased some stuff he didn't really need. However, there's a new vet in the office now, and she seems to be more realistic with what's necessary vs. optional in pet care. Bottom line: my husband and I both recommend Banfield and the wellness plans to all our friends with furry family members. We've been very happy with the staff and care our dogs have received there.
