We made a reservation as advised and waited 15 minutes standing at the door before anyone even stopped to greet us. It was shouting level of noise, though we liked the charm and lighting in the room itself. It wasn't exactly a greeting as she was carrying 4 plates and gave the air of have 10 seconds to deal. She was sweet as can be but said she'd be right back. 10 minutes later, still standing alone at the door, she came back and said they could split a 4 table and give us space (I'm thinking we made a res? why is it a problem ?) so we said sure! and waited at the bar. 45 minutes later, they came and said they had a table for us- a different one- my husband had been standing the whole time as there was no room at the bar. We ordered immediately as we were starving by then- the fish special, a sea bass and the mozzarella salad. The salad was delicious because of the pesto quality, though there is no excuse not to have ripe tomatoes in Sept in CT.  Was a generic supermarket tomato. The fish was tasty but overcooked. Had a consistency like chicken, not flaky sea bass. My husband had to go to the bar for our second round of wine since nobody came to the table. May or may not come back. Meh.

We live in Montreal and come regularly to Norwalk. When we're here we never miss the opportunity to spend a dinner at Basso Cafe. The combination of very creative and refined cuisine with a relaxed environment always makes it a special moment where we can talk, have fun and enjoy the excellent food. Super friendly service, so efficient that you barely notice when the food is brought in or empty plates picked up. Great selection of background music that ensures a lively environment but not too noisy, perfect for a dinner with friends!
Yesterday we experienced the new menu with tapas; a great way to share food and discover the range of creativity chef Renato has to offer! 
We couldn't try everything on the menu, so we'll definitely come back!

An afternoon delight!  It's charming, elegant and friendjy ambiance immediately invites you to sit and enjoy! The menu offers so many delectable small plates as well as main dishes....all superbly created and the presentation is a work of art. 
Staff is professional and friendly but Kudos go to the chefs.  All were culinary delights . Can't wait to go back

Came to dinner tonight had a wonderful time with four friends enjoyed many wonderful dishes!! Started with Lobster Salad 
Tuna sashimi ( to die for ) the Chef suggested the special which is Striped Bass & Lobster Rosoto . The presentation of the food alone was so amazing!! Our food was not only delicious but well prepared!!! The service of our waiters could not have been better !!

Basso Cafe is the hidden gem of Norwalk - I never even heard about it until two weeks ago. Do yourself a favor and GO! The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. Get a bunch of tapas - sit and enjoy!
