I really adore this whole place! It's a wonderful resource for those who are looking for a beautiful hike, an educational field trip, or a great place to have a picnic. The trails and picnic areas always seem well maintained.

The nicest people and most beautiful park. Bring your hiking shoes and spend some time with nature. I recommend the lake side path but for a challenge take Cherry knobs all the way to the quary. Great views, knowledgeable staff, and real care are easily found here.

This is the largest city-owned park in Tennessee and the only city-owned nature preserve in the United States. The park has so much to see and do that one day is not enough. Ranger programs vary daily and are lots of fun while being educational. The planetarium shows are fascinating. There's almost 40 miles of hiking and biking trails, including a lakeside trail (our favorite), a longer hike to the fire tower, and a more challenging hike to the peak. The visitor's center has displays about local plants, animals, geology, and upcoming natural events. There are daily barge rides on the lake. More adventurous people can ride the zip line. A more advanced zip line and a ropes course are available by reservation for groups of 8 or more. For those who want to stay closer to the ground, the adventure course, which is a small obstacle course. You could visit with Tennessee's most charming wolf pack or, like we did this week, hang up your backpacking hammock and chill out for a couple of hours for stories and a good book.

This place is AMAZING for the $5 per carload price. Beautiful scenery, the wolves are spectacular. Anyone rating this less than 5 stars, is doing so because they are a sad human being really.

Great family place to adventure. Relatively cheap. About a third of the exhibits were either being worked on, transition into being moved into or just missing. Still fun and a beautiful view of local wildlife.
